Thanks for this fascinating story. It blows me away that Bridgetower apparently sight-read the sonata before an audience and did it so well that he was wildly applauded.

Did you perform the entire sonata this evening? I can't imagine playing that naked opening after schmoozing with the audience for 4 minutes. Regardless, the story brings humanity to Beethoven and removes him from a pedestal--at least momentarily.
