The interviewer asked him how he decided he wanted to play bass in a band.

All I can say is don't believe everything that others tell you, or that you read. Just because someone is in a successful band doesn't mean their drug addicts. More then likely it means they're not, because they put more time into the music then being addicted to drugs and chasing down they're next high. Drug addiction can really take up a lot of your time, then only wanting to do something when you've found your drugs and are high can limit just about anything you do.
