(here is what a 1959 gibson TV special looks like for all you noobs who weren't born then) i635.photobucket. com /albums/uu73/BCRStuff/Antiques/59TVSpecialFull.jpg
you try to cover "Chinese Rocks" on stage without one of these (or a reasonable facsimile) and YOU WILL BE STONED. or just sent to purgatory and sentenced to listen to Megadeth and Motley Crue's horrrible sex pistols covers continuously for 5000 years.
this is one of the best 3-chord rock songs ever written. if green day had written/recorded it on DOOKIE (see: "Sassafras Roots" from that album for a similar three-chord pounder) it would have hit-single sold billions and been a "rock classic" etc.
when we cut cut a cover of it we got jonathan hall to do a honking lead gtr break with his cool 1959 Les Paul TV Special thunders/joe perry guitar into a little practice amp. mick avory/style drumming, Heartbreakers on rhythm guitar (but on alison's 60's cherry red SG w/an authentic george clinton autograph, instead of Lure's crummy les paul), and an actual 59 TV Special gibson for the lead break...and they said punk rockers weren't hard-thinking conceptual artists etc whateever. ha!
great memories from high school in the early eighties and KZEW and the rock & roll alternative 98 minute sunday night show featuring new wave, punk and local new wave and punk bands.
