I was there at this reading with my wife. It was great to hear Carroll's story (really, the opening chapter of his most recent novel, Glass Soup) read in his own voice, which was much more New York than I expected after his stay in California and his long residence in Vienna. He comes so seldom to the US you need to see him whenever you get the chance.
If Shakespeare is the equivalent of an expensive Chanel perfume and Thomas Hardy the equivalent of a gourmet Lobster dish, Carroll is like the smell of freshly cut grass or a turkey and mustard sandwich using Thanksgiving leftovers.
Refreshingly organic, earth-bound fantasy fiction.
