To smithjamesthomas : Actually, you're a liar. I am the co-writer of "Never Knew Love", which I co-wrote under the pseudonym of John Paul. My co-writer was Derek Bordeaux, with whom I was in a band with at the time. I have the copyright form for the song, the RCA contract with Rick Astley, and receive BMI royalties from it to this day. I have all of these things in my possession - what do you have ? Shall I hire an attorney to settle this ? Produce your proof, liar !

Thanks msherman - this recording is pretty lo-fi, for some reason. The original on the CD has much better fidelity. Not sure why it sounds so muffled. Silly video, IMO - the circus / clown thing was a strange choice. Rick tossing his hair around also seems very contrived. It's as though he's trying to say "Look everyone - my hair is long now ! Isn't my "new" image cool ?"... Again - funny choices people make in the name of fashion... :-)

@JohnnyFoster Actually I'm the author of this song. I've written a number of tunes for Rick over the years. I actually consider this to be one of the not so great ones, though I've still got an income from it. In any case, please don't lay claim to something that isn't yours.

I love Rick, but this song & video don't work for him. The parent CD "Free" had a few good songs on it, but it was made at a bad time for Rick.

i completely agree with you. it was quite a good album but had far too many diversities on it. i dont think rick really knew where he was going musically at that point. wonderful you was the best track on the album in my opinion.

@tixxstixx I think it's the reverse, the fans of SAW days did not accept the change of Rick's diversities, Rick wanted to make this kind of style even in his early years.

Rick's vocals on this song are brilliant. The quality of the sound on this video doesn't do his voice true justice. I tell you what I can do... I can save this file, remove the sound and add a high quality audo version of the song to the video. I might do that.
