As was already said in other comments and is easily understood by people who have studied population growth, when parents believe their children have a pretty good shot at surviving they have fewer children by choice. Vaccines are known to save far more lives than they have harmed. If you want to talk about problems with modern medicine, try antibiotics in the food stream.
There are plenty of studies that show that when people feel that their kids are safe and aren't going to die from a disease (vaccinated), that they have less children. In underdeveloped countries families often have 10 kids, not b/c they love kids, but b/c 8 will probably die young from disease. Give those families life-saving vaccines, and they usually have fewer kids.
