Thank you, this is what I was hoping to invent or to find already tested. I had several ways to do it as ribbing is my preferred stitch and I invented an easy way to rib, in fact easier, faster that stockinet, knit or purl. So any stitches demanding jumping from knit to purl and more are my choice. Too bad I do not know how to make a video. So thank you again. I will keep in touch. Your voice is great too.
I will look for more of your videos. So clear and concise! Thanks and this will make a world of difference in my knitting. Much more professional looking too.
What great video tutorials, they are a great help to me and so easy to understand. Im having great trouble learning how to cable or rib cast off, do you think you will get time to show how to cast off in either of these.
Thanks so much for taking the time to do these for everyone.
I've found that if you knit one more row and then continue to knit the ribbing that it has a nice rolled touch on the edge which looks very nice. I make the side that has the 2 knitted rows be the right side of the fabric. I used to have knitting machines and this is basically the same technique that I used on the machine. I just couldn't figure out how to do it when hand-knitting. Thank-you so very much! I love it!
@kesinbos You'd just do 2 of each. Be careful that you are going to end with the one that you want to start the next row with though. If your total number of stitches can be divided by two but not by four, you'll probably be starting and ending with two knit stitches. Practise on a small swatch
excellent video and very helpful. Using this method as opposed to the traditional casting on avoids not having allowed enough yarn to cast on. Thanks.
i enjoy your tutorials very much . compared to the others you explain things simply and use a good contrasing yarn for easy visablity i am just learing to knit and watched your vidios to learn the stiches and you made it easy and enjoyable :D keep em coming <3
One problem:surely the set-up loop counts as the first knit stitch, so wouldnt it be better to start with the purl cast on stitch, otherwise it will look like k2 p1 k1 p1 etc and will messup th 2nd row?
no, because as you see at the end of the video, you start at the other end of the row so the set up loop is a purl at the end of the row. And even if you're knitting in the round, if you end on an even number, which will be a knit stitch, it will connect to the set-up loop and still be knit purl knit.
Have just cast on,as i just said, one as if to knit, the next as if to purl, and it has turned out thee same as yours, with some stitches kinda slated etc.
It would have been much much clearer had you simply said instead of casting on all stitches as if to knit, cast every other one as if to purl, instead of all this 'go between the two stitches' malarkey, with a back view which confuses even more.
when you sy go between the two stitches for the second cast on stitch, how? in actual fact do you mean put the needle through the stitch you just cast on as if you are going to purl?Thats the only way i can see of going betwween the stitches and actually being able to cast it on.
Skizzet21 you would just instead of casting on one as if to knit, the one as if to purl, make it cast on one as if to knit (because the first,'set-up' loop counts as the fist knit stitch), then cast on 2 as if to purl, the 2 as if to knit and so on.
Sure, most cast on methods will be fine for ribbing. The advantage of using this cast on method with ribbing is that the cast on edge is somewhat camouflaged.
Hi there, thanks for your question. I'm not quite sure what you mean, so I'll take a guess that you would like to know how to make the next row of knitting, which moves the stitches from the left-hand needle to the right-hand one. I have some videos about making the knit stitch and the purl stitch that you can have a look at for some more help. If you still don't find what you're looking for, then please write again and I'll do my best to help. Happy knitting!

Not at all! This is just one of the many cast on methods available. This particular cast on is used for the beginning of ribbed fabrics.
