stock subaru awd system on first gen imprezas and second gen legacys have power variation between the wheels depending on slip. unless the trans connections are modified, it puts most of the power to he front wheels unless there is more slip. though if 3 wheels slip, more power will be directed to the one wheel that isnt until grip is found. but yes locking the front wheels will transfer power to the back to get it moving with minimal damage to the trans, links and drivetrain
Is this good for the engine when you burnout like this? I mean it is a 4WD with 50:50 Trans. but you block the front wheals... i think its no the best idea :-/
@mk24v It's fine, just simply throws all the power to the rear diff. This cars been like this for years. I sold it to my friend in Wellsboro, PA. It still runs and still drives with no issues. And its not 50:50 even when it is AWD.
@mk24v you are correct....except Subaru's are AWD.....that being said, unless he removed the front drive axles to that car prior to doing the burnout, doing what is seen in that video is certain death for any AWD subaru. The transfer case uses whats called a viscous coupling, which is not really ever meant to split the more 70/30 or 30/70. That burnout is similar to extream clutch riding...however it takes place inside the transmission.......lets not talk about the rear diff
@chughes44 They didnt make the wrx in 2000 in the US ( if thats what your refering to), it was called the 2.5 RS (or impreza). The wrx didnt come about until 2002 with the bugeye 2.0L Turbo.
Very nice haha. I actually did this my self and welded it up. Ya does has a lot more whine then normal. I already did it once on a fried tranny and it sheared off all the gears in the tranny when it went. I'm tempted to to pull out the shafts and have them treated to make them stronger so they hold up better. But due to lack of funds that's not gonna happen anytime soon. Also you do go through rear diff's quiet quick. Thinking about fabbing up a Supra LSD in the back.
hey i know where IAG is! i actually don't live too far from there. ive got a 98 rs with 95 ej20g in it and i loveeee it. sweet RWD mod. i think ill stick with the AWD tho ;)
I'm trying to stick with the "stock" RS look. I'm thinking about the HKS lip for the front. There has been a lot more done to this car. I'm hooking up the front mount in February. Look on IAG Performance for this in the 2008 open house show. It had a 2007 WRX top mount and everything else was custom as far as exhaust, oil feed/return, etc.
There was some welding in the center dif. I didn't do it myself. I wouldn't go that direction, because there is a lot of drivetrain noise. If you wanted a rear wheel drive impreza, I'd do a drivetrain swap to a wrx or sti. I believe there are difs that you can by to convert it.

They call the different styles HATCHBACK for a reason. Type in sedan and you'll get a regular one.
