This lyrics were wrote by poet José María Pemán in 1928 (Spanish Civil War was In 1936, Franco was later). Franco restored Spanish Anthem removed by the Communists in the Spanish Republic ("Himno de Riego"). Franco impeded the Nazi attack on Gibraltar. Franco was never in the Nazi side. Anyhow,this anthem has been the official since the 18th century with the exception of the 12 republican years, during which the official anthem was switched to the "Himno de Riego" (Riego's anthem, honoring General Rafael del Riego) this change was made in order to establish the republic as independent and completely unrelated to the monarchic Spain and Christianity.
Should you be interested in this "Himno de riego" I've translated the lyrics for you, although this is not official anymore and therefore its use as such is considered an offense against the Spanish constitution (same goes for any of our "old" flags i.e.the one featuring the double-headed eagle used by General Francisco Franco)
Soldiers, the country calls us to the fight. let us swear to her we'll conquer or die.[CHORUS] Never before did the world see more noble daring, nor a day in which greater courage was shown, Than that when excited we saw the fire of battle awakening in Riego the love of his land. Yes they do predate Franco, by 2 centuries in fact. Franco just used it to evoke old glory days in order to awaken pride and strengthen both the people and his image as the harbinger of a resurrected and powerful Spain. which is why it was more related to him than the country itself and its history. (and therefore replaced in the republican era.)
You may also want to listen to the "marcha de granaderos" (grenadier's march) which is where the national anthem derived from.
@MikeMA31 I see, if the Lyrics are from 1928 then that's before Alfonso XIII Abdicated, thus meaning they are neither Franco nor Republican Era in origin (which is what i was hoping to confirm).
@RTO41 Well a different user claimed these were the pre-Civil War Lyrics. So i'm a little confused right about now (unsurprisingly).
That said: I did read by one online source that the Anthem used under King Alfonso XIII had Lyrics (after asking here i assumed the same Lyrics were used by Franco).
They can't be pre-civil war.Do you know why? The lyrics say ''raise your arms'' and that is just as the nazi salute.And that salute was implemented in Spain by Franco that was fascist.

(Sounded slightly Socialist to me in the middle part).
But as i'm not well versed in Spain's Cultural Mindset i overlooked that (the French Anthem after all has decidedly Militant Lyrics [dispite their lack of notable military success's over the last 200 years]).
This was the anthem of Spain from the last years of the 19th century to 1931 (when the republic reached tothe power) In my opinion they are the best lyrics for the spanish anthem.I think that if you search you will find the lyrics in english,if not,tell me and I pm you them.

@RTO41 On Channels: I know where your coming from (had problems in the past with "Stalkers" & Spammers in general [mostly of BNP & other noxious affiliations]). But you can get around that without setting the Channel to Private.
Best way is to set up the Privacy Settings (via Recent Activity Bar) to not show Likes / Comments or whichever one(s) you wish not to be shown, it worked for me (as i don't like my Comments being tracked by just any old user either).

By Coincidence it's the first one i found on YT, but at the time put to one side in Watch later, as my 1st thought was to try the National Anthem (that this version of Marcha Real mentions the sea in it's lyrics i was all set to use this [till i with your help i confirmed this version was Franco era]), i have to admit Salve Marinera's Lyrics do fit better than the Alfonso Era National Anthem's Lyrics do.

Part of your airport is built under Spanish territory, something that was allowed under the agreement of sharing its use; the airport was built and you closed it to Spanish citizens as British, you buy in Spain and then import those goods to British soil (Gibraltar) without clearing all the taxes that should be imposed, etc, etc, etc...

Anyhow,this anthem has been the official since the 18th century with the exception of the 12 republican years, during which the official anthem was switched to the "Himno de Riego" (Riego's anthem, honoring General Rafael del Riego) this change was made in order to establish the republic as independent and completely unrelated to the monarchic Spain and Christianity.

Yes they do predate Franco, by 2 centuries in fact. Franco just used it to evoke old glory days in order to awaken pride and strengthen both the people and his image as the harbinger of a resurrected and powerful Spain. which is why it was more related to him than the country itself and its history. (and therefore replaced in the republican era.)
You may also want to listen to the "marcha de granaderos" (grenadier's march) which is where the national anthem derived from.

(Sounded slightly Socialist to me in the middle part).

@RTO41 On Channels: I know where your coming from (had problems in the past with "Stalkers" & Spammers in general [mostly of BNP & other noxious affiliations]). But you can get around that without setting the Channel to Private.

Part of your airport is built under Spanish territory, something that was allowed under the agreement of sharing its use; the airport was built and you closed it to Spanish citizens as British, you buy in Spain and then import those goods to British soil (Gibraltar) without clearing all the taxes that should be imposed, etc, etc, etc...

@BritishJanner actually I am an american and I am proud of my spanish ancestry!!!!! I am married to a american soldier that has a german mom and an irish father. As far as my gypsies relatives, I have none!!! I am roman catholic! gypsies are not! There are a few thousand gypsies in England! why must you insult everyone? you remind me of a school bully.

@elissadon Damn yank!!! My girlfriend is American, from New Hampshire. I'm a British soldier. I am of pure Anglo-Saxon ancestry. I serve my Queen with loyalty and dignity, i am of the CoE, i dislike Catholics very much. Catholics should be burnt on the stake like they were in the good ol' days. The gypsies in England are persecuted like rats. I'm not a bully, i just like some banter with foreign people! lol

@elissadon lol I was starting to like you too :) I don't mind catholics, to be honest, some are nice people. My ancestors have fought many wars against the catholic church and Henry VIII expelled it in the 16th century. My ancestors would have fought against your ancestors at some point, how interesting, since we are now talking to eachother over the internet!
