Yeah, its going to take a long time for Prattsville to get over this one. They started demolishing the buildings that can't be salvaged last week. What is left is a lot of people with very little options unfortunately. Pastor Charlie and Pastor George from Huntersfield Christian Training Center is in charge of the volunteer efforts down in town (Great American Parking Lot). They're seeking skilled volunteers to help actually rebuild the town if you're interested.
For people who don't know, most of the images here are AFTER the waters had subsided! During the flooding, the waters were much, MUCH higher. I see a lot of video and pics here that I took myself. Though I'm no longer in NY, I cannot stop thinking about what these people have gone through, and the long road ahead to rebuild (if even possible in some cases).
I'm still trying to spread the word across the US about what happened. So many people outside of NY have hardly any clue about what Hurricane Irene did to Upstate NY. Leaving NY, we drove for miles and miles and still saw flooding and damage. This is HUGE!
I don't live there anymore, but to see my hometown and surrounding towns destroyed and to see old friends homeless, business-less and jobless is so painful. One of the people swept away in this flood was an old family friend. Heartbreaking to know she died that way. My prayers are with everyone.
@conniemaew Connie, I live in Greene County, for whatever political agenda, the local paper here is totally downplaying the mention of casualties, both human and animal. My friend who is an animal control officer has been out and about and getting alot of info. The body of a dead infant was found yesterday, and there are many many dead animals in the woods and on roads. Alot of roads are closed due to busting, but also because they're trying to HIDE the deaths. PPL NEED TO KNOW THE TRUTH .
@Zeuszgrl Let me know what you find out. I'd be happy to pass it on. I have sent out emails with videos and pictures to a lot of people so far and told them what I know, which is precious little. I haven't gotten any reply yet from my friend in Maplecrest to find out how bad things are there. My only info has been three news articles I have found (that's how I found out about the death, which was not a great way to find out) and youtube videos.
I spent 6 Months living in Prattsville back in 95 and I have to say it was filled with great people and the town had that old time long ago charm to it. I always take a ride threw Prattsville every year on my Motorcycle on my way to Nicks Waterfall House for a Burger and a Beer ! I hope the charm and spirit of Prattsville was not washed away forever !
Prayers go out to all the people of Haines Falls, Hunter and Prattsville and all the other towns in Upstate NewYork affected by Hurricane Irene. I hope that the people of these towns will be able to get their lives back soon.
