@commyhater, It's a high E i think. Played like this - xx245x. He plays A5 and B5 as "normal", D5 like xx023x then E5 as i just wrote before, using his thumb to mute the low E and A strings. Personally, i can't stretch my fingers out that far so i just play it like this - A5 (x022xx), B5 (x244xx), D5 (x577xx) and E5 (x799xx).

Because as he said, this is one of the first songs he ever wrote. Back in the day, they wanted to do solos and shit to show off and they thought it was cool and whatnot. Nowadays, he knows he doesn't have to write a shitload of solos to make a good song.

Because in live shows now he pretends to leap about rather than play his guitar for the whole song. Just watch him during St Jimmy, King for a Day (and others) on Bullet in a Bible. Here's hoping that the new "Insomniac-like" album will have some good solos in it. In fact I wish Green Day would do a recording of songs like this, Dry Ice, Paper Lanterns etc. Maybe release it as a charity album or something?
