@mewzekman By trying to hit the tee you inadvertently change your swing slightly and come more down on the ball because you're so focused on carry the club through the ground.
For all you young posters that say that your friends make fun of you for playing golf, just remember that one of the main social events for the business / medical / government world is golf. Connections can be developed in the professional world on the links and doors will open because of those connections. Who's going to be laughing when you have a better job years down the line?
@freethoughtmusic Yeah, it's sad when I hit better shots out of the rough than the fairway. Embarrassing to have a great drive followed by a duff or shank.
I quit football to play golf year round excluding basketball season. Even though all my friends laugh and make fun of me, I still love the game. And the funniest part I think about is in 4 years when I hopefully get a scholar ship for golf, well then I will be laughing
@MrRagnello17 I dont know what school (HS/College) you are in, but if I could go back and redo high school, i'd be golf team every year, and be filthy now.
@CntrBrdr Yea I am in high school right now. Just finished my freshman year and I was playing varsity. Next year I will be playing almost every match.
This is what Homer Kelley (The Golfing Machine) called "aiming point concept". You direct your HANDS (not the clubhead.....the clubhead will follow your hands) down AND THROUGH the aiming point (tee), while totally ignoring the golf ball. If executed properly the golf ball just gets in the way of the swing. The golfball is NOT the target. The Aiming point (tee) is the target!!! It helps to think of driving the tee INTO THE GROUND with your HANDS! Do NOT think of hitting the tee with the clubhead
During the swing. Does one have to think that your right or left side is actually hitting the ball. No instructor has ever talked about this. In tennis you are holding the racket in your right hand and is golf almost the same? If not, I then don't want to even think about playing this game. To me is like you handcuff yourself and play a game of right handed swing. Plz help clear this matter. Thnx.
love it!!! I am always "topping the ball". This putting a tee 4 inches ahead and training yourself to make sure you hit BOTH should make sure that you are moving down at the point when you strike the ball. WILL TRY THIS. THANK YOU!!!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!
I have gotten a few comments from people wondering about doing this drill indoors. This drill works indoors AND outdoors!!!!! Being able to hit down on the ball...making contact with the turf (grass or mat), in front of the ball is a key element to hitting quality golf shots. ALL good players do this....make sure you do as well!
Please do NOT think about "lifting" the ball...not the right concept! Golf is a game of opposites...to get the ball UP in the air, one must hit DOWN on the back of the ball!
So, hit DOWN on the ball...take the tee out...and enjoy better ball flight!!!!!!
i got a big tournament tomorrow and im having the problem of trying to lift the ball...im gonna get to the driving range in the morning and hopefully i can figure it out...THX
I was thinking too after seeing videos that the starting iron angle should not remain all the way when it comes to the back, it should be straightened to where the tee is in the video which is why I cannot hit irons properly like drivers!
Keep it simple...understand that making contact with the turf AFTER contact with the ball is the essence of good iron play...this tee drill identifies this essential element!
Hope you all are having a great season....our students at The GolfRite Academy & Performance Center at International in Bolton, MA are doing great!!!! Email comments/thoughts to info@golfrite.com
Does the tee in front of the golf ball represent the low point o f swing, or rather where the club should bottom out so that the divot is in front of the ball?
great tip! its results are really outstanding!! may it cause some other problems like not staying behind the ball through impact or coming over the top? thank you very much
Shouldn't cause any problems...continue to remain stable & braced thru the swing, as always. Do that, and you will be really striking the ball solidly!

Useless-this shows the end result, but not how to actually hit down on the ball.

when you do this, does your backswing still affect your contact and the ball height?
