The loyal Space Marines have no need for dark powers, as they have allies they can actually count on. To be surprised at about Eliphas leaving you Araghast, it is common practice amongst Chaos to leave your superior to die, and your own god loathes those who run from battle.

Nope, everybody is all nuts. The designers intend for it to come off as evil vs. evil, but they often overdue and cause nearly all the sides in the game to go with the most evil possible, which makes them come off as well, dumb.
