  • lollllllllllllll i died at "the moooon" i was really waiting

  • the moon! rofl!!!

  • I don't think I've thanked you for this recipe, it was a hit with my family (and some neighbors who "happened" to get a whiff of it). The only thing I wasn't able to do was puree the soup as our blender have already "retired", although I do prefer a chunky soup, and it tasted great anyway. So thank you Chef John! :-)

  • The MOON!?... LOL!

  • I just found dinner for tomorrow!

  • The MOON people, think deep...no don't look up at the sky.

  • heh, you creeped me out with that particular intermezzo - I was consumed by the soups progress, and then aw ... the drama! LOL :)

  • THANK YOUU! :D

  • collect the mushroom juices and use them as mushroombroth in yr soup's liquid, better taste and fast caramelization

  • Actually, the moon reflects light from the sun, so in the end.... it's still from the sun?!>!?!?! /confused self

  • buh buuummmmmm ..... the moon.

  • you don't need for all that cooking time , the more you cook the more you lose the nutrients in the food , good recipe after all. thanks a lot

  • LOL How would the moon give off energy... at all ? good video though

  • U could try Sauerkraut:d

I would like to See how you are doing this:)

  • Energy from the Moon...Now I know why I love mushrooms so damn much!

  • hhhhhhhhhhhh th moon

  • Try grating in some chocolate ate the end. it makes mushroom soup go from good to great.

  • Why do you have to slowly lower in the thyme?

  • @artoslo haha yea i was thinking about that!so if you just drop it in,you ruin the soup huh?;-)

  • I love it when my mom makes this soup! hmmm.. It's time I asked her to make it again.. :)

  • lol did you really have to lower the sprig in slowly? =p

  • The MOON???

  • and technically mushrooms do get their energy indirectly from the sun... plants->animals->time->dead animals/plantmatter-> mushrooms.

  • I used SPECIAL mushrooms in this recipe once. HOLY CRAP. AWESOME.

  • what kind of cream he uses on the end?? i didnt understant

  • @nikolajavorina CREAM, he used CREAM. What is so hard to understand?

  • @Faust013 there are several types of cream you moron, you wold know that if you could cook....and for your information he used a cup of HEAVY crem sunshine ;)

  • @nikolajavorina - Hello. I am sorry for the rudeness of my fellow Americans.

Крем он користи је "све намене" типа. У Америци, то се зове "пола-пола" (пола млеко, пола милерам). Ми користимо ове врсте у нашој кафе.

(The cream he uses is an "all-purpose" type. In America, it is called "Half and half" [half milk, half heavy cream]. We use this type in our coffee.)

  • @nameofthepen thank you that was really nice of you :)

  • @nikolajavorina - No problem. But, I was wrong. He used heavy cream. :D

  • crap i dont have a blender...

  • I don't care much about where mushrooms get their energy! This looks like a delicious and simple recipe. I'm making it today!! Thanks!

  • @TheBeeRigh For your information some mushrooms are symbiotic and they get their energy from your mom.

  • lol,,lovely recipe n wat of presenting it is even lovelier:) wil definitely try it like many other of ur recipes :D..

  • After doing some research I found that mushrooms DO get their energy from the moon!!! COOL!! Because FUN GUYS love the night life.

  • I think he was joking about the moon thing... People are so uptight these days lol

  • What is there to dislike in this simple video? really worth a research! :D

  • The guy, who talks on this video is so funny:)

  • thanks chef john, i watched ur video last night and you informed me that mushrooms get energy from the sun, and on my science test... BAM.... u saved my life

  • Only food we eat that doesn't get its energy from the sun? I donno about you, but I eat chickens and those things as well as mushrooms, are heterotrophic and they get their energy from metabolizing organic material, not from photosynthesis or this 'moonosynthesis' you speak of.

  • WHAT CREAM DID YOU USE?

  • loooool i freaked out dude xDD

  • Why's the color of mine always brownish black when i use white button mushrooms! :(

  • @whyice933 Do you move the mushrooms around when you are sauteing them? Lave them alone on the pan and let them get to a golden brown color. If you saute them and stir them constantly they will turn a grey color. Trust me it helps.

  • from..... The moon.

    Baahahahahaha

  • Awesome! I love it every time I learn something new from you. The blender idea and mushrooms getting they're energy from the moon. Great work! Keep it up! I depend on your recipe's to keep my taste buds happy...

  • Comment removed

  • all light from the moon is reflected from the sun... so mushrooms actually does get their energy from the sun.

  • you reckon this would go good on a burger? with a swiss cheese?

  • @Rattmaster86 100% yes.

  • Can someone tell me if I can make it a vegetable stock instead of chicken?

  • Oh my goodness. I half expected him to say dead bodies. xD

  • no they get the energy from horse poop that they use :D

  • Just made this. It's REALLY good, and super easy to make! I omitted the fresh thyme though, since there wasn't any at the market.

  • Sound effect ehhhhyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but nice vid! it helps a lot!

  • i'm 12 going on 13 and have to cook this... as a tested subject in school. Hard....

  • @ForeverJBelieber Not really.

  • Ohh how I love the pure liquid essence of mushroom! :)

  • I'm sure people have said this time and time again, but I say it to emphasize it's importance: mushrooms do NOT get energy from the moon.

Fungi are the closest related to us kingdom- wise and they are detritus feeders. So any rotting biological compounds such as leaves, wood, etc. Which is considerably grosser and slightly cooler than moon energy.

  • Hey chef, since this is a cream soup how would a little nutmeg taste in there?

  • Mushrooms dont get anything from the moon, they get it from decomposing dead biological matter... which isnt a big worry as thats how any meat would get its energy... but where the hell did this moon Idea come from?

  • @TheBeeRigh Sheldon Cooper much? :P

  • @TheBeeRigh newton decided to troll people i think

  • @TheBeeRigh It's humor you cretin.

  • @TheBeeRigh

Captain obvious ... to the rescue ... *sigh* unable to recognise a joke

  • @itsRyanLiew i think TheBeeRigh was just joking

  • @itsRyanLiew rofl :D

  • @TheBeeRigh He wouldn't have had a joke if he didn't say that. Haha.

  • @TheBeeRigh no wonder he is not showing his face...

  • it makes sense...!!!

so that's the reason why we fight zombie with wushroom at the night..!!

    dang, chef John..

u re chef, cook instructor, super nice guy and.. INCREDIBILY GENIUS..!

  • Why don't american blenders have a lit? Here in The Netherlands we have...

  • @deliciousgirl15 they do but they are American so they don't use them :)

  • Спасибо большое Шеф Джон, за этот рецепт. Я приготовила этот грибной суп на пять персон. Честное слово, почувствовала себя настоящим шеф-поваром :)

  • '...on low heat for 1 hour...' next vid...

  • did u open the leaves u put in the soup looks like it was tied with the rope lol

  • dude. i understand why we use mushrooms in night levels for plants vs. zombies now :O

  • thas why i go out in the cow patch late at night gettin my own mushrooms bahaha

  • but john, doesn't the moon just reflect the light from the sun

  • This makes me hungry

  • no wonder i love mushroom s 'm from the moon u c

  • A bit pointless watching a cooking video if you used " chicken stock". Was hoping for something from scratch. Good technique on starting the mushrooms but pointless after that.

  • @cheskydivision There are plenty of videos where he uses his own chicken stock. But seriously what is he supposed to do if he just doesn't have chicken stock on hand? Boil a whole chicken carcass for hours just for a bowl of mushroom soup? If he doesn't have it on hand, give him a break.

  • @wakemusicalarm I ment I should not have to use stock at all or go to buy some. If you are making soup then you make soup. I was hoping to make the soup from scratch. Still there are a lot of good tips in this video.

  • I just made this for my green bean casserole. SO AWESOMELY GOOD. I never actually tried it before because the canned shit always looked so gross to me. So glad it's this easy; everyone should try to make this at least once and taste the difference. Thanks!

  • Great recipe. Mushrooms DO NOT get their energy from the moon. As fungi, the do not undergo photosynthesis, however any light provided by the moon is reflected sunlight. They get their energy from decaying matter. Finally, exposing mushrooms to ultraviolet light (sunlight) causes them to produce Vitamin D2. Still, an awesome recipe...

  • @SilkyTP Booo. He's only trying to sound funny, since they grow in the dark. Buzz-kill!!

  • @TheTumboos and you know this...how? I made this soup today, and for whatever it's worth, it was not funny (smile). It's an awesome soup - although I used a stick blender instead of a tabletop blender.

  • This is nice...

    Regards,

    w w w . recipesnet . tk

  • heh.... mushrooms n moon? It's scarier to think that mushrooms grow on rotting decomposing carcasses of the earth

  • LOL .....The MOON TUN !!!!

  • sorry it was just cream not heavy cream

  • how much butter should i put ? at the beginning part. Also, it looks like you add broth to it at the beginning? or it is just butter and the mushroom produces the watery part?

  • @chingshen the water comes out of the mushrooms because they are all piled on top of each other allowing the steam to condense

  • DUN DUN THE MOON DUN

  • I did the recipe and it went out awesome!

Sadly I was out of chicken stock and ended up using a meat one, but it was just as tasty!

  • yum yum .... thnx a million

  • Thanks, i'm making this for dinner. I live in Denmark and we have a huge selection of mushroom from the nature. And they offer high-quality protein, vitamins, unsaturated fatty acids and fiber. Some even get you tripping :D

  • @liber777paradis Hej :)

  • @liber777paradis I also live in Denmark and also going to make this for dinner :D

  • It looks hot, thick, creamy & delicious just like my seamen.

  • @TheDevineBeing

    1. If you are going to make a joke, at least try to use the correct word.

    2. If you semen has that color, you should see a doctor...

  • and the moon takes its energy from....the sun!

  • My kid doesn't even like mushrooms but she ate this and said thank you.

  • I would add a toe of garlic and some white wine and a bit of lemon juice, but the basis works fine

  • can we use milk instead of cream

  • @sara7874 i think can, even coconut milk.

  • Great vid, gotta make it someday, and did anyone else get a fright at 2:36 and 2:40?!

  • @MelissaAndLaura i was entirely freaked out.

  • @MelissaAndLaura I did,i jumped the hell out -.-

  • mushrooms get their energy from MANURE LOL

  • That looks delicious!

  • what cream ,would u please let me know

  • @luisa2521 heavy whipping cream, make sure is unsweetened!!

  • haha, i love the way you explain it! docent make me bored at all.. lol

  • This recipe looks delish! I am going to make it very soon! It may take a little longer to cook, but it's very easy and I'm sure, worth the wait!

  • Nice! This is very good

  • How much cream?

  • he pees in it at 1:22!!

  • Man, I love everything you do with food! :)

I think I watched all of your videos, and all of them just have something to it that other videos dont.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Can you use this same recipe (changing the main ingredient of course) to make cream of celery, cream of broccoli or cream of whatever?

  • hilarious!great recipe too!

  • for the mushroom soup, what if you wanted it a little chunky? how fine would you recommend to at least taste little bits of mushroom?

  • but............why cant you cover the blender with the blender's cover?

  • @carmenleeka could make it too tight, and with hot liquid inside the blender u don't want that ... soup all over urself or the kitchen for that matter... won't be pretty :)

  • @ajanixa in that case, i think its just my blender, it has like a lose cover on top of the cover which allows air out, but liquid wont get splashed out

  • Man, my uncle originally told me that mushrooms got their energy from oxygen that they absorb through the gills on the undersides of their caps. Good thing you set the record strait. Thanks chef John!!

  • very nice illustrated. thanks a lot!

  • Great! Looks delicious!

  • OMG!!! I was watching with my headphones on and the part with THE MOON I got soooo scared that my heart is still beating fast 5min later! LOL :o)

  • Nice recipe, but I would chop up a load of mushrooms and lightly fry them in butter or olive oil and then disperse them throughout the soup, rather than just a few on top.

  • you scare the crap out of me,lol

  • i was actually scared about were the energy for mushrooms came from

  • can you make a mushroom soup but with no cream?

  • Yea I heard the Mushroom Jokes somewhere else i guess since this is the 1st time i watch this video

  • Can't wait to try this at home!! I love the everything with mashrooms :D

  • Lol at the moon!

  • mushrooms get their energy from dead plants and animals. Fungus, Molds... same thing. So technically they get their energy from the sun

  • lovely soup

  • You seriously scared me there chef john... I jumped like ½ a meter into the air and knocked over my cup of water and my cigarette tray on my desktop, seriously that was cruel! :p

  • lol that was the best. I was wondering what everyone was commenting about... then there it was "The MOON!" LOL., You're the best.

  • I made this and it's outstanding! Thanks Chef, all your recipes turn out for me :)

  • I pissed my pants when he said moon rofl

  • grr! it sounded so good untill the chicken stock!

  • wtf? how would chicken stock ruin it?

  • @iHaveOneArm i'm vegitarion, i've been searching for a good cream of mushroom soup recipe for ages

  • @iHaveOneArm He didnt say that chicken stock would ruin it, he said if you try to thin it out with the cream it would be ruined because it would be too much moisture. He said you can thin it out WITH chicken stock or broth or veggie stock

  • i wasnt referring to chef jon somone said the chicken broth ruined it for him becuase he's vegetarian =o

i love the chicken broth idea =D

  • I r teh moon!!!

    btw nice recipe :D

  • LOL.....love the suspense....
