Nice video BlackPrince. I have a Bell Galaxy S Vibrant here in Canada. It is in for repair for the second time.. complete piece of crap. Bell also have the HTC Desire Z which is basically the same phone with Sense UI. Was thinking of picking one up as the Galaxy S is going for sale when I get it back. I think you just made up my mind. Well done. :)
In a way it does look like a new version of the nexus one but with a keyboard. Also they will import a desire z rom with sense to this phone right because that would so be awesome!!! btw if gingerbread comes on your g2 are you going to be able record a walk through of it?
Wasn't sure about the G2 phone, considered the Blackberry Torch, the Nexus One and maybe the Motorola xt720, read many bad reviews about the Moto xt720, Torch is more businessman oriented, was very interessted in the Nexus One. But after watching your videos (hinges problems??? and Impressions &More) i will get the G2 (HTC Desire Z here in Quebec, Canada from Bell Mobility). Great job BP310. Thank You.
ur cool i like the way you talk about the phone your very up front about it and you tell us the stuff we need to know ! i am like getting this phone next week!
@BlackPrince310 I have my G1 rooted and am running a Wifi Tether on it. I figured the G2 would not come with the ability, but do you know if there is an app that will support it?
@BlackPrince310 yeah this worries me cause from what I have read in a few forums is that for some reason the G2 keeps Un-rooting itself. Do you know anything about this? I really would like to upgrade however I will stick with my G1 if it means i don't lose my Tether ability. I run a web design, hosting, and SEO business and am the only employee so it is important that I know I can work when not at home or have to find a wifi spot
@LindsayStone Yeah if you reboot the G2 it will 'refresh' itself in a way, meaning that if you overclocked it and had the temp-root, they will be gone when you reboot. It only takes 10 seconds to reapply them once you have them installed though. From your situation I personally wouldn't recommend the G2 because it doesn't have wifi tethering out of the box. However, the upcoming myTouch 4G will support mobile hotspot/wifi tethering out of the box so you may consider that phone when it releases.
@BlackPrince310 Have you tried to root the phone already? Do you think the internal storage that's being used, is the NAND image file that reinstalls the stock ROM if you decided to root?
Hi BlackPrince. I used a small clip in this video as part of my new Android video. All credit goes to you of course and my viewers will see your name on my screen cast. I was just showing my viewers recent videos that struck me in a good way.
@Xytos It's more efficient because it uses 45nm technology and has a stronger GPU. The stronger GPU allows the CPU to run faster because it has less work to do. @Xytos wrong. the 800 mhz proc inside the g2 is also a snap dragon series with a maximum speed of 1ghz but was purposely under clocked for better battery life. the 45nm architecture calls for faster speeds due less travel distance (at the lower level due light limit) and cooler runtime. a host of new instruction sets are also included with updated proc for better efficiency. in fact, a 600mhz MSM7227 runs as fast as the 1ghz nexus. the one inside the g2 uses MSM7230. do benchmark against nexus 1
@Xytos Bro that is simply not true. If you do a comparison between a 600Mhz processor with a 1Ghz processor (No GPUs, strictly CPU performance) and they are the same exact processor, the 1Ghz will win every time! It simply takes in more info at any given time. Again, the G2 is faster because the CPU is optimized for mobile smartphones (MSM stands for Mobile Station Modem) and the upgraded GPU. (the prime example being modern processors running at significantly lower clock rate and performing significantly better than single cores at 2-3x higher clock rate)

dude your such a hypocrite, you said people should be more open minded about android devices but it seems to me that all you do is bash the samsung vibrant. first off since i am a vibrant user i can tell you that the battery is not horrible....... 6hours really??? i can get a day in a half with medium use. second super amoled happens to be second to best in screens other than iphone 4 and for someone to be a android blog writter you should know that. quit being a fanboy of your new toy
yea i agree with u a lil bit on the material on the vibrant, but i still think the vibrant is a good phone! i have no probs what so ever. and the battery last me about 10-12 hrs on full charge. and i did remove all the crap that came on it and made it as empty as possible and the phone is superrr fast and its better on the battery. Regardless we are both running android we still on the same team.
the battery life is a little hard to believe, i mean 19 hours on the g2 and the vibrant had on 6 hours. you really had a problem with your phone because my vibrant got about 10 to 15 hours. i could have the phone sit in my pocket for 4 hours and have a full charge. so i think you had an app that was killing your batterey and you did know about it. but great vid i still think the g2 is a waste it is just a my touch slide.
You hit every base I was asking about prior to seeing this video! I thought why was the 800 mhz less the vibrant's 1 ghz processor? You explained stock Android is super light when its not loaded down by Cell Phone Carrier Bloatware and Motoblur or Touchwiz or Sense. Did I hear you right? With that right there, is this phone faster than it's competitors??
@stmpoodle remember the g2 is running android version 2.2, that alone makes the phone 3x faster, it doesnt have all that extra stuff like the vibrant does which runs 2.1 and has a lag issue. with all that said the g2 is just a little bit fast than the vibrant stock. if you did a lag fix on the vibrant they they are about the same. you can compare these phone together because they are running different OS version. and once you start to add apps to the g2 i am sure it will slow down as welll.
Excellent review. Thanks for taking the time to make and post your video. Maybe make a new one showing how the keyboard works and how you like it compared to the on-screen keyboard. I know that's the main reason I'm considering the g2, gotta have a real keyboard. Keep up the great work!
I downloaded that battery thing you have on my your phone I like the bigness and stuff. But is keeps saying inaccurate how long dose it take to calibrate with my phone so I can start seeing how much battery I have left and stuff. Am I missing doing something lf u can help me I really appreciate it. Thanks. I have a G2 as well.
@ko20creper if you are new to tmobile then you can get the g2 for $149.99 at radioshack....if you extend your 1 year or 2 year contract then you can iget it for $199.99. hope i helped =]
You should do an Epic 4g vs G2 video once your girl friend gets the Epic. (Most of the tech reviews claim that the Epic 4g is the fastest galaxy s phone)
hey GREAT video! i have one question, does it have a landscape on-screen keyboard when texting , or you have to use the slide out keyboard for landscape view?
hey GREAT video! i have one question, does it have a landscape on-screen keyboard when texting , or you have to use the slide out keyboard for landscape view?
@BlackPrince310 thanks for answering my question. you give pretty good reviews. you should do some comparison or speed fights with the the other top phones.
The Vibrants display is MUCH better than the G2's, and you over exaggerated how slow the vibrant was lol pretty big time actually. BUT i have both the G2, vibrant, and nexus, and the G2 is the fastest. pretty nice review! you need a new camera lol and DEFINITELY a tripod
@ItsAndroidsWorld I didn't say the Vibrant's display wasn't better. The colors on super amoled are extremely saturated which makes the picture look better. It's also much clearer in sunlight. however, the G2's screen has more PPI though which leads to the picture looking more crisp and clean. I didn't exaggerate anything.
@BlackPrince310 Well if your not gonna accept friendly council then idk what to say, but to me and the few people I showed this video too, we ALL said you made the vibrant seem WAY worse than it is lol oh well don't say you DIDN'T exaggerate anything when multiple people have that opinion (: like I said pretty nice review, I see potential in you lol
@ItsAndroidsWorld Sorry I definitely don't mean to come off as arrogant. I was just disappointed with the Vibrant. A $500 phone should not release with that many problems. I mean seriously, I don't want to spend 2 hours on XDA a night looking at all these random roms and lagfixes so my phone can run the way it should out of the box.
Like really.. you say your open minded? LOL talking BS about the Vibrant.. You are so full of it.. you must have really fucked up your vibrant if it was any slower then the G2.. its a fact the Vibrant is faster and that just shows you are closed minded.. I mean your G2 looks like a nexus. I guess when you walk around they think thats what you have.. O nose they think you have a nexus you better go get a new phone!!! if you had any clue as of how stupid you sound.. really, grow up..
@0nemoa u need to chill but the vibrant is not faster, when it gets 2.2, it most likely will be, seeing that the galaxy s w/ 2.2 is the fastest android ever, but the g2 is the second fastest so look it up b4 u start freakin out
@0nemoa u need to chill but the vibrant is not faster, when it gets 2.2, it most likely will be, seeing that the galaxy s w/ 2.2 is the fastest android ever, but the g2 is the second fastest so look it up b4 u start freakin out. plus wat he says bout the vibrant is tru just maybe not to the extent he took it to regarding the speed and battery, maybe
@0nemoa You need to chill out. You know what, I'll do a comparison video with the Vibrant and G2 soon just for you. ;) I have owned the Vibrant and G2 unlike you, my opinion is more credible than someone who hasn't. I'm so full of it right? I guess editors on Android Central and Engadget must be idiots for claiming the G2 to be faster than their Vibrant's or Evos, go look on their websites.
@DWdevelopment In my house I don't get strong network signal. I tested the speeds yesterday when I went out and had full signal on H. I got around 3Mb down and 1Mb up, it's disappointing but I will try in a location that isn't surrounded by buildings soon. I'll have a video for it.
Thanks for the review. Do you have any comments on the quality of the still / video camera? A lot of camera's say that they're 5 megapixel with 720p video, but like you said yourself - these are just numbers. The the quality it's often terrible, with low framerates and a terrible rolling shutter effect.
really thinking about selling my vibrant for the G2, i have launcherpro on my vibrant which is much faster than touchwiz though, i love the keyboard on the G2 though and the metal casing and stuff plus stock vanilla android is always better
This phone is Fast!!!!!!!. The quality is outstanding. As for the battery it lasts me the whole day with moderate to heavy use. Hope that helps for people considering this phone
@reyese2423 I sold my Vibrant and got the G2. The G2 is much faster and is a better built phone than the Vibrant. They are both great phones but the Vibrant simply has too many problems for me. I also like having a physical keyboard and stock android.
@neptoon07 I'm personally not interested in the MyTouch HD, but that's just me. MyTouch phones are aimed at families and teenagers, not adults and people in businesses. It will have a customized version of HTC Sense and come preloaded with all kinds of bloatware and worthless apps. It does have a FFC but that's not really important to me; I would only use that to chat with my girlfriend when she gets her Epic 4G (she's on Sprint). I prefer stock android to everything.
@BlackPrince310 i didn't know it had sense i prefer stock android to i don't really need a FFC but i would be nice to have one, but i think i'm going to get the G2
@neptoon07 Do what's in your best interest. You will not regret the G2. The MyTouch Slide ran on a heavily customized version of HTC Sense so it's safe to assume the MTHD will get the same treatment since it's aimed at families and teenagers.
I just bought this phone :D i'm getting waiting around a week :D can't wait!

raydollerz 1 year ago
yea i agree with u a lil bit on the material on the vibrant, but i still think the vibrant is a good phone! i have no probs what so ever. and the battery last me about 10-12 hrs on full charge. and i did remove all the crap that came on it and made it as empty as possible and the phone is superrr fast and its better on the battery. Regardless we are both running android we still on the same team.
Androidandmore101 1 year ago
the battery life is a little hard to believe, i mean 19 hours on the g2 and the vibrant had on 6 hours. you really had a problem with your phone because my vibrant got about 10 to 15 hours. i could have the phone sit in my pocket for 4 hours and have a full charge. so i think you had an app that was killing your batterey and you did know about it. but great vid i still think the g2 is a waste it is just a my touch slide.

With that right there, is this phone faster than it's competitors??
stmpoodle 1 year ago
@stmpoodle remember the g2 is running android version 2.2, that alone makes the phone 3x faster, it doesnt have all that extra stuff like the vibrant does which runs 2.1 and has a lag issue. with all that said the g2 is just a little bit fast than the vibrant stock. if you did a lag fix on the vibrant they they are about the same. you can compare these phone together because they are running different OS version. and once you start to add apps to the g2 i am sure it will slow down as welll.

I want to see a video with adw and launcherpro running on the g2 want to see how it is, who gives a crap about stock launcher nothing special there

Excellent review. Thanks for taking the time to make and post your video. Maybe make a new one showing how the keyboard works and how you like it compared to the on-screen keyboard. I know that's the main reason I'm considering the g2, gotta have a real keyboard. Keep up the great work!

Vibrant + Root+ lagfix+ launcher pro = g2 pwnage

You should do an Epic 4g vs G2 video once your girl friend gets the Epic. (Most of the tech reviews claim that the Epic 4g is the fastest galaxy s phone)

Are you having the hinge problem? If so is it annoying? I really want this phone but I don't want it to be faulty..

@Bendary93 If you buy it from T-Mobile it costs $500 + Tax. I'm not sure if it can be unlocked but it does work on the AT&T Edge network.

ItsAndroidsWorld 1 year ago
@ItsAndroidsWorld I didn't say the Vibrant's display wasn't better. The colors on super amoled are extremely saturated which makes the picture look better. It's also much clearer in sunlight. however, the G2's screen has more PPI though which leads to the picture looking more crisp and clean. I didn't exaggerate anything.
BlackPrince310 1 year ago
@BlackPrince310 Well if your not gonna accept friendly council then idk what to say, but to me and the few people I showed this video too, we ALL said you made the vibrant seem WAY worse than it is lol oh well don't say you DIDN'T exaggerate anything when multiple people have that opinion (: like I said pretty nice review, I see potential in you lol
ItsAndroidsWorld 1 year ago
@ItsAndroidsWorld Sorry I definitely don't mean to come off as arrogant. I was just disappointed with the Vibrant. A $500 phone should not release with that many problems. I mean seriously, I don't want to spend 2 hours on XDA a night looking at all these random roms and lagfixes so my phone can run the way it should out of the box.
BlackPrince310 1 year ago
Like really.. you say your open minded? LOL talking BS about the Vibrant.. You are so full of it.. you must have really fucked up your vibrant if it was any slower then the G2.. its a fact the Vibrant is faster and that just shows you are closed minded.. I mean your G2 looks like a nexus. I guess when you walk around they think thats what you have.. O nose they think you have a nexus you better go get a new phone!!! if you had any clue as of how stupid you sound.. really, grow up..
0nemoa 1 year ago
@0nemoa u need to chill but the vibrant is not faster, when it gets 2.2, it most likely will be, seeing that the galaxy s w/ 2.2 is the fastest android ever, but the g2 is the second fastest so look it up b4 u start freakin out
Theobieze 1 year ago

Theobieze 1 year ago
@0nemoa You need to chill out. You know what, I'll do a comparison video with the Vibrant and G2 soon just for you. ;) I have owned the Vibrant and G2 unlike you, my opinion is more credible than someone who hasn't. I'm so full of it right? I guess editors on Android Central and Engadget must be idiots for claiming the G2 to be faster than their Vibrant's or Evos, go look on their websites.

Have you tried speed test if so what are your speeds please respond
DWdevelopment 1 year ago
@DWdevelopment In my house I don't get strong network signal. I tested the speeds yesterday when I went out and had full signal on H. I got around 3Mb down and 1Mb up, it's disappointing but I will try in a location that isn't surrounded by buildings soon. I'll have a video for it.
BlackPrince310 1 year ago
Thanks for the review. Do you have any comments on the quality of the still / video camera? A lot of camera's say that they're 5 megapixel with 720p video, but like you said yourself - these are just numbers. The the quality it's often terrible, with low framerates and a terrible rolling shutter effect.
craigspc 1 year ago
@craigspc I'll post some HD footage with the G2 soon. The camera doesn't quite match the Vibrants or iPhone 4's but it's decent.

really thinking about selling my vibrant for the G2, i have launcherpro on my vibrant which is much faster than touchwiz though, i love the keyboard on the G2 though and the metal casing and stuff plus stock vanilla android is always better

so g2 over the vibrant??? im thinking about selling my vibrant to get the g2
reyese2423 1 year ago
@reyese2423 I sold my Vibrant and got the G2. The G2 is much faster and is a better built phone than the Vibrant. They are both great phones but the Vibrant simply has too many problems for me. I also like having a physical keyboard and stock android.
BlackPrince310 1 year ago
what do you think about the mytouch hd because i really like the G2 but the mythouch hd looks pretty cool to.
neptoon07 1 year ago
@neptoon07 I'm personally not interested in the MyTouch HD, but that's just me. MyTouch phones are aimed at families and teenagers, not adults and people in businesses. It will have a customized version of HTC Sense and come preloaded with all kinds of bloatware and worthless apps. It does have a FFC but that's not really important to me; I would only use that to chat with my girlfriend when she gets her Epic 4G (she's on Sprint). I prefer stock android to everything.
BlackPrince310 1 year ago
@BlackPrince310 i didn't know it had sense i prefer stock android to i don't really need a FFC but i would be nice to have one, but i think i'm going to get the G2
neptoon07 1 year ago
@neptoon07 Do what's in your best interest. You will not regret the G2. The MyTouch Slide ran on a heavily customized version of HTC Sense so it's safe to assume the MTHD will get the same treatment since it's aimed at families and teenagers.
