@LPeovic No, actually, you have it wrong. Iggy was trying to keep calm for 'the interviewer' (who happens to be the great Ian 'Molly' Meldrum). Iggy was not even going to be allowed to come to perform in Australia because of his reputation from having smashed a bottle over his head & knocked himself out on stage. 'Molly' Meldrum intervened & acted as a guarantor for Iggy's behaviour in Australia. If it weren't for Molly, my friends & I wouldn't have seen Iggy live that year!

@frankmat the shit thing about countdown is that nearly every act on the show were forced to mime on a tape - including AC/DC (who did many appearances on the show prior to international success). I grew up on Countdown and found a lot of the mime performances boring and disappointing - but that was the nature of commercial TV (in this country, at least).

Sugarman was just a 14 yr old kid when he met Jim Morrison and the Doors who he idolised and later became their manager as well as Iggy's. The book chronicles the LA music scene's descent into Hell through extreme drug abuse and all the rest that goes with it. Iggy Pop's escapades are included in the book.
