  • I just finnished watching this movie with my father, he really loves his black and white movies so this was a treat for him and me as a film connaisseur. We got the re-make of this movie as a present, after reading all the bad reviews i dont know weither we should watch this or not?

"I wonder if i can return it and maybe change it, since the movie is in its original package"

  • YOU MUST TURN OFF EVERYTHING OR NOT HAVE CONTROL YOU WILL NOT HAVE ELECTRICAL POWER YOUR POWER PLANTS WILL ALL BLOW YOUR DEFENSE SYSTEMS WILL GO INTO DEF COM AND ALL HELL WILL BRAKE LOOSE THIS IS GORT YOU SILLY HUMANS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED NOW ACT ACT NOW.

LOVE EACH OTHER AND MOVE TOWARD THE LIGHT DO NOT LOOK FOR THE DARKNESS BRIAN COX WALK IN AND PRESS THAT MANUAL STOP BUTTON I KNOW YOU HAVE ONE PRESS IT PRESS IT AND PULL OUT THE WIRES GO NOW BE MORE FAMOUS THAN AL;BERT ITS WHAT WANT...

  • what a shite this is 21st century guys ,how could ye guys say its a good movie, in this generation ..

  • @Xxsnowhillxx The story and the acting is briliant. And Gort, the Robot, is cult.

  • @Xxsnowhillxx, Good is irrespective of generation, my dear friend.

  • @Lirianus your probably some 15 year old high school drop out that thinks cloverfield, the hills have eyes, paranormal activity ect are movie masterpieces I remember my nan telling me when she was a teen she watched the original invasion of the body snachers and was scared shitless yet when she made my uncle watch the remake after the movie he turned to her and said:"is that it?!" so don't you say remakes are better when they can't scare a 4 year old yet the originals can scare a 17 year old

  • @H3rnwhaga Its Nineteen Fifty fucking One! Honestly what were you bloody expecting? Avatar like effects?

  • One of the all time great movies-with a message that is still very relevant to all of humanity.

  • I think the director, Robert Wise, also directed The Sound of Music.

  • Gee... I don't fucking remember saying THIS movie was responsible for the entire genre. But since me and this guy (NOT you by the way) were discussing THIS movie, I was using THIS very influential movie as a fucking example. More sci-fi writers, directors, etc have used THIS movie for inspiration than almost any other movie made, EXCEPT Metropolis. That okay with you?? Now.. if you'll excuse me.. I thought I was done with this discussion... and now I am. So why don't YOU shut up?

  • One of the greatest movies ever made.

  • Wow! Look! "They came 250 million miles out of space..." 0:51 That means they came all the way from our own moon! #LOL

  • REST IN PEACE PATRICIA NEAL

  • R.I.P. Patricia Neal

  • I'm sure the update with Kenau Reeves is a good flick. And Gort looks like something they would lampoon on Mystery Science Theater 3000. And Michael Rennie sounds like he's on heiium. But this trailer gives me goose bumps. The music. A 9 foot thing utterly impassive. Not a trace of human warmth. unlike Robby the robot in Forbidden Planet. No face, no voice. It rocks.

  • So...

The aliens from this film are pacifists?

Because we'll act like this when real aliens arrive to the earth...

  • Absolutely great. seems like my childhood returns, thx for upload and sharing this! 5*****

  • @witzmix My pleasure! Nice that I could make you a joy.

  • I watch the old one 1 mounth before watching the new..both are great I think, but the alien in the old movie looked more friendly and happy than the one in the new movie

  • man this movie is awesome i rented the new version and it came with the old one it was a good movie

  • This is the best! How could they think of remaking it?

  • because they want a new version without the important messages of the old one but with action to keep the public interested.

  • @fleendha Well the remake is better than this version.

  • @Lirianus NOTHING is better than this version.

  • @teddibearsworld Come on, how can this version be better? Acting sucks, script sucks, special effects suck.

  • @Lirianus Jeezus.. are you serious??? How old are you? It was made in 1951!!!!! If that's your rational.. then keep the remake. This is widely regarded as one of the BEST films ever made. By audiences, by critics and film historians! The script is one of the most intelligent and thought provoking stories ever written. Without it, there would be no remake. Not many people today even are aware of the remake. THIS HAS lived, and WILL live forever. Now go back to your X-Box!

  • @teddibearsworld Oh Yeah, "I have come to conquer the world, I will kill you all, I have come 250 mil miles out of space, like they are from mars hahaha. I didnt know that aliens were robots. Fuck that man I better play X-Box all day than wach this piece of shit. And listen the fucking music man, its like it comes from the boiler. I cant find a reason to wach this instead of remake. Oh Yeah, It could make me laugh with they foolishness.

  • @Lirianus The old trailers were always overblown, and made to seem as melodramatic as possible because that's what got people into the theater at the time. You haven't even seen the actual film, so judging it based on this is stupid. The actual movie is a lot more laid back and serious than this indicates. And none of the dialogue you mention is even in this trailer, let alone the film.

  • @teddibearsworld This was the first sci-fi film that actually treated the subject with intelligence. The story is pretty much the same as the remake, so you make no sense right there. You're entitled to your opinion, but if you haven't seen the film, you don't know what your criticizing. If it hadn't been for "this piece of shit", lol, you wouldn't have any sci-fi to appreciate today. This is why the younger generation is going to shit. No respect for the things that gave you what you love today

  • @teddibearsworld oh shut the hell up, one movie alone isnt enough to effect a whole genre; what about This Island Earth, The Mole People, The Crawling Eye, Forbidden Planet, or even better: how about Metropolis? Y'know, the sci fi movie that was made 3 whole decades before The Day The Earth Stood Still? The one with an even deeper plot?

  • @Lirianus You don't know what you are talking about. THis is a stellar film, so good, it fostered an inferior 21st century remake!

  • @fleendha Remaking is almost all Hollywood can "think" these days.

  • looks like a very good movie

  • I think that too

  • gotta love director Robert Wise even though he also directed the one of the only bad Star Trek movies in 1979

  • Get ready for another

  • where can I find music like this.

Anyone know the names of any composers of similar music ?

  • Yes, the film was released nationally in September 1951.

  • I wonder if Major Carpenter is still looking for his clothes???..lol.

  • war of the worlds looked awesome though, but it added absolutely nothing and Tom Cruise sucks while Keanu Reeves is an actual good actor. Seriously the new movie will be good, probably not as good but good. Also the director says it's more of a tribute anyways kind of like what Peter Jackson did with King Kong.

  • The original 1951 film is my very favorite film of all time. No sci-fi film will ever be as fantastic. From Bernard Herrmann's superb eerie score and incidental music, to Michael Rennie's perfection as Klaatu, to the symbolic storyline, which is based loosely on the story of Jesus, I can only hope this new 2008 version presents some elements of the original, which was not just a great film, it was an unforgettable experience.

  • that cyclops looking dude had icemans REALLY old costume

  • the remake is stupid

  • Yeah it is. They just shouldn't mess with some classics. War of the Worlds was a good example of that.

  • pwnd at 1:44

  • Are you aware this movie was made in the early 50's?

    Just asking.

  • the put the end of the movie in the trailer...

  • Also one of my all time favourite movies...way ahead of its time in many ways.

  • This is my favourite sci fi movie of all time. I also live near where Michael Rennie was born.

  • One of the greatest! Thank God Michael Rennie got the part instead of Spencer Tracy as was considered! Rennie did the part justice like no other actor could have.

  • the earth will stand still in the flyovers of first global contact....hope youve adjusted your paradigm accordingly...
