Seriously that's bad. Title is certainly misleading. As many others said it's just a glider and nothing more. I would be positive to this if gained even a foot in height, but after it got disconnected from the vehicle it just fell down. Disapointing.
The only thing they did is take a very un-aerodynamic glider and make it flap its wings, if you want to make enough upward energie he would have to flap its wings much faster, even with those long wings, because its weight of the aircraft is to big, and look up the word glider, they are not the first... The first real gliders were used in WW 2, and after that the germans started making alot because they were not aloud to have plans with engines, look up the names: "schempp hirth" and "Alexande
This is NOT human powered flight. The Ornithopter was pulled into the air by whatever vehicle was used, and then glided back down. The only thing the human did, was prolong the glide.
I was there for 60 of the 65 flights. In all the early testing he had to learn to fly this machine and there was NO flapping. Slowly, he learned to control the machine while flapping. On all flights with no flapping, it was back on the ground in about 100 feet. When he was flapping, it continued flight as long as he had the energy to pump his legs.
this isnt the first we got human powerd aircrafts in Holland for many years hate it when the usa says they invented it the first while other countrys al ready use them for a long time
Now do vertical take-off and keep that baby airborne for an hour ;) A great first step, though I wonder how hard he had to pedal to flap those wings - he must have gotten pretty exhausted, or I doubt he would have stopped!

Looks Smart Car powered, not human powered. This is a flapping glider, not an ornithopter.

hahahah----this just blown my mind-----i would expected them to paddling or operating some manual mechanical stuff

How about the title , "The first gas powered flight that flaps!"
Seriously though that less than 100 lbs airplane was pretty damned cool :)

Sorry but had to thumbs it down. Was not as impressive as the title lead me to believe.

Lol cool, jump off a building or a cliff and try to stay in the air, instead of getting pulled by a vehicle =D

Not human powered. Do it without pulling it with a vehicle.

Ha.. Silly students... Didn't you mean human powered gliding? And I'm pretty sure gliders have existed for a while.

Lol, i got an idea, just fly in a glider and keep it in the air with thermal energie instead of peddeling... Just a thought you know

@jiberish001 yea i was thinking the same thing when i watched it. I thought they finally made it fully human powered. Oh well

@MrTimothytim
1) Canada is not apart of the USA.
2) What they meant by the title was that they were the first to successfully fly with that particular design.
