I can respect an artist who isn't afraid to express his feelings about God. Our society (US) has become so anti-Christianity, it makes me sick. Don't let a few bad apples ruin the name of Christianity. Keep the faith!
@WutDaFreakNutz not just a few apples sorry to say! a LOT of catholic preists have sexually abused children, Nuns physicaly abused children and the rest of the christian comunity threaten people with Hell.
Ask yourself would Jesus have done thus? NO
They say now that 1 in 10 Norwegian children has been abused by the church it is rotten to the core!
I would love to see Jason mraz due several songs from The Prophet, when u read the book you start singing the words even when you get past the part from this song.
Lyrics are taken from "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran pages 11-20, if you like this song, then go to the library pick up the book and read or listen to the audio book. I do not think Jason Mraz claims to have written the majority of the lyrics to this song. I am almost certain he admits to taking the lyrics from the book.
@coreyklein7322 You're right. He does admit to adapting the lyrics (with only minor changes) from "The Prophet". And it is an absolutely beautiful poem... this song does it justice. I'm not a big fan of the more uptempo version of this song, however. He should have stuck with this version.
@coreyklein7322 Thank you for sharing. I ordered the kindle version of the book after i looked it up on amazon and red a review that referenced the marriage section of the book, which seem to have inspired the beginning of this song. Thank you! :)
Wow, I always was so sad, wondering if this unbelievable superhuman musician, my favourite for all time, knows the Love of God. Now I found this and I believe that when Jason sings 'I do', that he really does.
That is one of the greatest love songs ever written. It gave me goosebumps & tears in my eyes. I knew from the 1st moment I heard Jason that he was something amazing. Bravo.
Hey, if you like singing Jason Mraz songs, I recently checked an online karaoke where you can for free : it's SINGCHANA. It's awesome, your voice is compared to the original and you get a score for your performance. You can also challenge other users!Should try it !
the lyrics are excerpts taken from the poetry/philosophies of the Lebanese Prophet - Kahlil Gibran. Person research led me to discover the rest of his works - truly inspiring. Jason Mraz does an amazing job of musically bringing his words to another level.
How cool must that have been - yeah, so my brother is going to write an unbelievably kick ass song to perform at my wedding... what a talent!
It's nice to here that the man who lives in a show-businessworld really belives in God. He proves that faith in Him can lead up to something.I think I was looking for it, I mean for this inspiration.
Yeah...idc care if he's an atheist...well...ok I mean that would be kinda bad...but to write a song...as great as any of the songs that he has...is amazing...he's a genius...his alignments...he's just great...so even if he's christian...or not...he's amazing...to judge him in any way...or to even care...is stupid
@blackbird12790 I care. I'm interested in what he believes in now. And to write a song like this hints at a christian perspective; you can be christian and brilliant too.
@tha1ne how is this a christian song? just because its about God doesn't make it instantly christian... there's nothing about Jesus or the holy spirit in this song to make it a christian song. You dont have to be religious to believe in God. This is just a spiritual song. Many religions believe in one universal God. Many people believe in God and don't follow religion. :)
@currentGypsy I didn't say it was a christian song. All i said is it may suggest a christian perspective. By the way, Jason Mraz does believe in God. He said so in an interview
@tha1ne Please don't think I am knocking any religion. I respect all religions. Brilliance is not measured by how you were raised, only how you take what you learned and use it for good.
this song is awesome.. comes on the album "selections for friends," which is only on itunes... but mraz must be a pretty spiritual and inspirational considering the lyrics are based off of kahlil gibran's 1923book "the prophet." ... thanks for sharing!

Enjoy the song and have a life people! You know who you are! You still belong to the human specie, right? Or not.......
oh everyone just get over themselves...what does his faith or political views have anything to do with the fact that he is an incredile songwriter, talented beyond his years and has an amazing voice
ok first of all, what does the fact the he likes obama have to do with anything? second, it seems like he has some worldly ideas but everyone sins and who are you to say that that means that he can't possibly be a christian or have any kind of relationship with God? let him be, let him do his own thing.
i think that it is really sad that you ding someone on their talent just because they are spiritual. It isn't like he is telling you to be spiritial. i think it is great that he wrights about the way he feels and what is on his mind at the time an that is true talent when you don't conform to every one else wants to hear and you are singing for yourself!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
honestly i was also kinda dissapointed for some reason that hes such a believer in god. i know this is stereotypical, but it makes him less mrazy and more like an american bush supporting god follower. i myself do believe there's a god. i just didnt think mraz was someone like this
i got2 disagree. nottryin 2 attack ubut do u follow bushs admis.? cuz wat mrazs sayin is ttly diff. bush says believe ingod,no gays, democracy4 middleeast Im right urwrong nonsense. mraz is still mraz, ucan hear it in da way hesingsthe song. 4 all hissongs its not somethin were this is wati believe & wat i c now umust c it 2. its heressomethin amazin 4 theworld its urs 2 make wit it wat u want. theonly diffs the catchy upbeat tune 2 somethinsimple & from hisheart. hesjus singinabout wat heluvs
The I'm right you're wrong is bull. When has Bush ever said that? I bet you Bush would enjoy this song and see its meaning as well as anyone else would. I am a Christian and this song is so powerful add the fact that it was written by a mainstream singer/songwriter makes it a nice surprise.
this is absolutely positively the best song i have ever come across.
i think he read that book when someone left him a package of books about that kind of thing anonymously with a note just saying to pass it on when he was done.
i don't know for sure but the prophet seems like one of the books he said he got, which were really spiritual.
his lyrics are as much art as words in a novel or essay.
I can see the feeble creatures of heaven. Innocent and weak in their white garments. Sitting high above as faceless slaves. Their empty eyes, too blind to see. Terrorized and controlled with strings. Don't hide from me, open to your darker side. The die is cast, there is no turning back. Strike them down with hellish power. Warriors of the pit shall prevail. Their lives will end in despair and flames. No cross to protect their rotting souls. Prayers to ashes, angels to dust.
This is one of the absolute most beautiful and amazing songs I have EVER heard! I love it soooooo much! I can't stop listening to it!

I was surprised, did Jason wrote this?? Oh.. Amazing. Great. Love it, I do..
''..let the wind of heaven dance between you too
allow the space and time to bring you closer to everlasting love
cause God moves''
what do you do
God moves through you''
Great lyrics.

"your children will not be your children
they are the daughters and the son of a beginning
they'll come through your womb but not be coming from you
they will be with you but do not belong to you
you may give them your love but not your thoughts
then they'll arrive with their own hearts
they're the coming of angels this blessed season
and then they'll sing oh how God rests in reason
God rests in reason"

He's so good...Its just sad he believes in god :( and writes about it..I was hopin for a clever talent lol
vassekb 3 years ago
i think that it is really sad that you ding someone on their talent just because they are spiritual. It isn't like he is telling you to be spiritial. i think it is great that he wrights about the way he feels and what is on his mind at the time an that is true talent when you don't conform to every one else wants to hear and you are singing for yourself!

honestly i was also kinda dissapointed for some reason that hes such a believer in god. i know this is stereotypical, but it makes him less mrazy and more like an american bush supporting god follower. i myself do believe there's a god. i just didnt think mraz was someone like this
AlessandraKurksi 3 years ago
i got2 disagree. nottryin 2 attack ubut do u follow bushs admis.? cuz wat mrazs sayin is ttly diff. bush says believe ingod,no gays, democracy4 middleeast Im right urwrong nonsense. mraz is still mraz, ucan hear it in da way hesingsthe song.

Bush cant see crap !!!
As a matter of fact, I bet he can't read.
lmao
I just dont like him but, I do love me some Mraz!

this is absolutely positively the best song i have ever come across.
i think he read that book when someone left him a package of books about that kind of thing anonymously with a note just saying to pass it on when he was done.
i don't know for sure but the prophet seems like one of the books he said he got, which were really spiritual.
his lyrics are as much art as words in a novel or essay.
he is the transcendentalist of music.

You Were Born Together and Together You Shall Be Forever....
What a work of art this is and what an artist Jason Mraz is.

which book are you talking about?

Beautiful. I read the book and realised that Jason's ''God Rests In Reason'' was about that book. xD
I was like: ''Oh, oh! ''God rests in reason'', it's in here!'' xD
