I played one today in our local music store. They are really, really nice, and when you factor in the price, I can't imagine there's a better deal out there. I've played $3k+ handmade acoustics, and these masterbilts are pretty darn close.
@JohnFiaschetti i agree, i played one today and i think with a fresh set of strings it can sound just as good as some of the more expensive acoustics.
Has some buzz and frets need to be bevilled. It will cost you another $75 to $100 to get set up, but once it is you will have a killer guitar that will sound better than most dreads costing $2000 and up. A worthwhile investment.
@TheFizz40 If you look at his playing, you'll notice there's only fret buzzing when he misses the frets. When he plays on the frets at the correct position, there is no fret buzzing.
@tomcardello i would just like to see and hear a custom epiphone slope shoulder ,short scale, with a bearclaw top,and claro walnut back, and sides,v profiled neck ,of mahog ,red spruce braceings, may be a pyramid bridge, with a long saddle of fossilized wally tusk, and bridge pins, ebony fret board, long body slope shoulder,it is obvious i am not a builder, just a dreamer, and after 40 years of playing all kinds of acoustics i dream of this guitar
I have the DR500RA, and while it may sound incredible, the day I bought it I compared it to every Gibson, Taylor, Takamine, Guild, and Martin they had at Guitar Center, and while some were just as nice, not one played or sounded better, and most were NOT as nice. The neck profile's perfect for me, the sound (especially the volume) has to be heard to be believed. I was prepared to spend up to $1200, but IMO I got the best overall guitar there for under $500. (3 years ago). It's only better now.
I would LOVE to see this compared to a Recording King RD227. I am stuck between choosing DR500R or the RD227. The Recording King is definitely more appealing to the eye, but that's not what is important to me.
i have a mahogony master built slope shoulder with the 2 jack shadow e sonic system i up graded her with a teddy roosevelt ivory bridge and bridge end pins and a set of waverly open back tuners i like to use roto sound medium light gauge phosphor bronze strings i find it to sound better than most new gibson j or aj series-i wish there was a serious epiphone custom shop with choice tone woods and select tops i never see the 12 fret slope slope shoulder any more would be nice if they made a new 1
Yeah I expected anytime to see Mister Green Jeans to join in with the fiddle , Dancing Bear to start plucking the acoustic bass, and Mister Moose and Bunny Rabbit to pop up out of nowhere! LOL!
But lousy haircut aside, the man's right about the Epiphone Masterbilts: they are great guitars. I have an AJ-5OOM that I've had for nearly three years and it is the best, most playable, and most trouble-free acoustic guitar I've ever own.
@forshigity5000 Why do you assume that he didn't write his honest comments on the guitar and then read them in the video to make sure that he didn't miss anything? It's the way a professional does a review, unlike the hack reviews all over youtube where people ramble and keep saying "uhm".
this dude makes every guitar sound hot.

Sure it sounds great but just like forshigity5000 said it looks like he's just reading off of a card...

stop reading the card and be honest

Maybe he "honestly" wrote what's on the card, and chose to read it instead of winging it to give a professional performance.
He has a pretty goofy hair-do though. I'll give him that.

I have this same guitar! Sold my low-end Martin and bought this. Better sound and playability. Looks killer and is LOUD! I love my Epi...
