I'm positive they're gonna announce season 4 sooner or later because the main storyline is finished but they were being released too slow. Think about it, in just 2 main series they managed to get through 5 novels. So it's obvious that it's postponed and the author still expresses interest in adapting it to anime, so just keep waiting guys.
I read an interview with the writer of the novels a while ago and he basically said he wants to finish the novels before he considers doing any more anime. Be hopeful, as there is only one more novel to go (in theory, as the author said he wants to but isn't sure if he can fit all that needs to be said into one novel) after which they may well make more fmp anime seeing as the series is very popular in Japan.
Ok I hope I could read the novel after he finish it n.n I would love to see more FMP because before I used to not like mecha because of Gundam Wing but when I first saw FMP i was like wow O.O and it made me started to like mecha n.n
Some have been translated by fans but only the first 3 have official English releases I believe, have a search online for the novel translations if you are interested.

there is 3 seasons out...the one where he thought she was dead is the last episode in season 3, season 3 is Full Metal Panic! the second raid!
