I run the hartford fire honor guard and you would never see an american flag (or any other flag)that wasnt in the correct weighted holder.. and who was the genius that had to come through the curtains to start that dominoe affect anyways?? None of these ignorant idiots realized that any flag that touches the ground should be burned in a special ceremony. Most VFW',American legions and AMVETS Posts hold this ceremony once a year. they retire the flags with a Honor Guard.

Actually, if a flag touches the ground, the Flag Code only stipulates that it should be picked up and restored to display. This includes any cleaning or other alterations. A flag only has to be burned if it is "no longer a fitting emblem for display".
They did the right thing by righting the flags for display. It's an urban legend that every flag that touches the ground has to be burned. Besides, can you imagine the waste that would come from that?
