Dana is right Herb Dean is the best referee... Mazzagatti is the worst referee. Big fan of Big John McCarthy too, but he somestimes stops the fights too early for my tastes. Herb is king.

And thats what did the damage the weight of two heavyweights going down on fedors head, and then hendo started punching him. It was a good call a very good one.

I was always liked Fedor and have alot of respect for Dan the man as well.....the bottom line is.....Fedor was in a good position atop of Dan for a few seconds, he should have established a more secure top position, he gave it up, and for being sloppy and letting his guard down, Dan capitalized on the fuck up !

@MrTechnicalFighter It is not the fans that are in denial, Fedor was uppercut, then henderson nudged him forward to the ground and gave a few illegal shots to the back of the head. The ref made an error by NOT calling the illegal hits to the back of the head and stopped the fight prematurely. Even Fedor felt the fight was stopped prematurely. I guess the ref had alot of money riding on the fight.

Round 1 was insane. there was definitely a stoppage needed there. Sure, Edgar recovered - but consider a stoppage like diaz versus lawler.. Mazagatti definitely sucks.
Fuck all the random refs that are forced into UFC. They make the most bullshit calls and miss a ton of shit. I saw a fight get called after a dude tripped over his foot a while back. He barely got punched and tripped over his foot. He didn't even go limp or fall back on his head. But the ref called it. HERB DEAN and Mazagatti!
Dan Mirgliotta and Steve Mazagatti are by far the two worst referees in mma, Although Dan has made more severe mistakes in the past, he is at least getting better. He let Frank Mir eat 10 or so unnecessary and unanswered punches.
mma has rules and not so mixed martial art ( only wrestling and muaytai techniques)..it does not apply other techniques of martial arts and pretty restricted... there are people who have no rules at all that's why the greatest fighters should be defeated by kick to the groin or striking by stick..i hope people will understand that MMA is just business and its great fighters can'be considered as best around the world..they should be beaten by someone who have no rules at all.
Josh Rosenthal sucks terribly. I doesn't stop fights when he should because he defines covering up without moving at all intelligent defense to strikes. Worst referee ever.
I personally like Big John more than I like Herb Dean for two reasons. McCarthy has a better understanding or appreciation for the ground and clinch games. I have seen Herb stand up too many fights or separate fighters who are working their opponent against the fence. One case that glares to mind is Gonzaga vs Crocop yes Gonzaga put him to sleep via head kick but he was in side control working his game when they were stood up I didnt like it, but have you seen the refs on the smaller circuits
@ziccoo123 I agree and I hate to arm chair QB any professional at their job, and you can tell he has the fighters safety in mind but I have seen fights where the fans start booing and he starts splitting guys up for no reason. I agree if they're up against the fence and neither is in an advantageous position or if the guy is just laying in guard to a point but not side control.

@stockmaster1982 No, the fight couldn't have gone on. Even if Herb hadn't stepped in, once Fedor rolled over Dan would've kept dropping bombs on & eventually knocking him out again. I'm done arguing with you because you obviously know nothing about MMA. I've been watching the sport since 93, & practicing various Martial Arts since 98. If you think that stoppage was premature then you OBVIOUSLY have no common sense & no knowledge on MMA. The stoppage was neccessary... go back to watching WWE.

@MrTechnicalFighter It is not the fans that are in denial, Fedor was uppercut, then henderson nudged him forward to the ground and gave a few illegal shots to the back of the head. The ref made an error by NOT calling the illegal hits to the back of the head and stopped the fight prematurely. Even Fedor felt the fight was stopped prematurely. I guess the ref had alot of money riding on the fight.

Fuck all the random refs that are forced into UFC. They make the most bullshit calls and miss a ton of shit. I saw a fight get called after a dude tripped over his foot a while back. He barely got punched and tripped over his foot. He didn't even go limp or fall back on his head. But the ref called it. HERB DEAN and Mazagatti!

Dan Mirgliotta and Steve Mazagatti are by far the two worst referees in mma, Although Dan has made more severe mistakes in the past, he is at least getting better. He let Frank Mir eat 10 or so unnecessary and unanswered punches.

I personally like Big John more than I like Herb Dean for two reasons. McCarthy has a better understanding or appreciation for the ground and clinch games. I have seen Herb stand up too many fights or separate fighters who are working their opponent against the fence. One case that glares to mind is Gonzaga vs Crocop yes Gonzaga put him to sleep via head kick but he was in side control working his game when they were stood up I didnt like it, but have you seen the refs on the smaller circuits

@ziccoo123 I agree and I hate to arm chair QB any professional at their job, and you can tell he has the fighters safety in mind but I have seen fights where the fans start booing and he starts splitting guys up for no reason. I agree if they're up against the fence and neither is in an advantageous position or if the guy is just laying in guard to a point but not side control.
