For the person that said that this is Anti-Man, that is soooooo not true. I am in the production at my school and there are men parts in this play... Each year a different monolgue is added or taken out... It shames me to think that some people think that this condones sex with minors... These are real life stories of women that have been survivors of rape, mental and physical abuse. Not all the monlogues are sad, it is split up... I count stand ignorance and ignorant people...
Sad that so many are manipulated by this dishonest and crude agitprop. Some of its audience may be genuinely unaware that there is currently an active movement afoot to try to normalise and decriminalise sex with minors. It is either naive or dishonest to claim that should not be a concern. The age of the girl was changed from 13 to 16.
this monologue does not condone pedophilia. If that is what you have taken from it, then you have missed the bigger picture. The show is NOT anti-man...its pro-women, there is a difference. Of course the second a group of women decide to put on a show talking about vagina's, their own sexual pleasure to the exclusion of men its deemed anti-man. thats completely besides the point. some women have had bad experiences with men, especially women who have been sexually abused.
I've seen it done with a lot of animation and it was really good.
Maybe some people like this more 'saaad' version, but I think it would have been better if she like, had the mannerism and innocence of each age she played. For example, the 5 year old memory could have been a little more like, jumpy and innocent, the was a 5 years old would tell it.
So lets get this straight - the best way to fight abuse and violence against women is to go and see a play which completely endorses the rape of a 13 year old child by a lesbian paedophile?
A play which states that this rape of a child was in fact "a good rape" whereas any sex experiences in the play involving men (whether consensual or not) are of course totally wrong/evil.
The vagina monolouges is drivel. It is so contrived it makes me sick. How is a story about a little girl(in the original version she was 13) getting sexually abused by an older women empowering to women?Coochie snorcher? obviously ridiculously, universally, stupid and juvenile.
in the real story they do fall in love and stay with each other. the one here is an adaptation of true life events by the author it's not a verbal description of the actual account. It wasn't some boink and run situation where a pedophile targeted this little girl from a shelter because she knew she was weak and an easy target. The girl was 16 and the other woman was 24 (eight years isn't horrible i've seen worse) and they were both residents of the shelter.
Well when the man's interaction with her is to surprise her and try and rape her in a basement with her father and a party upstairs and the woman's part is supposed to be about how they fell in love and she got out of the shelter system. If you listen to the opening speech she says it, hope that helps
No with all due respect that dosen't help. a 24 year old woman is not "falling in love" with that LITTLE GIRL! and even if they were "falling in love" it's against the law and LITTLE GIRLS are too NAIVE to know what love is! That sick woman is just exploiting that poor LITTLE GIRL. How could she? Lord knows what this encounter with this pediphile is going to do with her in the long run.
regardless of how you look at it...it wasn't you who it happened to. and the story was told by the person that it happened to as a positive event that changed something that caused her pain... into something good.
Well this story happened in the 60's and 70's so the laws could have been different then, depending on where this took place. Also, there is a big difference between the 2 situations. With the woman it was consentual, with the man it wasn't. Try and look at the outcome as something positive. If she hadn't met the woman to hep take away the pain, who knows what would have happened to the girl
Seriously that's bull. Grown woman shouldn't be having SEX WITH YOUNG GIRL. what the hell is wrong with you people? your actually defending pedophilia?!? Are you insane? What so positive about being abused and then being BRAINWASHED into believing that it was a good thing and you (the girl) should be thankful for? It kinda reminds me of those children who are abused who thinks it their fault in the first place. Poor girl. I stand by my statements.
They (The Vagina Monologues)also talk about how they are against violence against women... are they kidding me? If I'm not mistaken wasn't their a part in "The Vagina Monologues" where a twelve year old girl is violated by a twenty-four year woman? I guess when lesbians do it's perfectly fine to violate a young girl and yet Their against female violence...right. Okay, so let me get this straight. Male violates girl bad. Lesbian violates girl good. *confused*
Regardless of the subject matter, this actress is really good. She at least makes the character seem real, rather than trying to give an extremely pretentious and artsy performance like most people who do theatrical monologue.
For the record, the lesbian agenda does not include recruitment. Guys do a good enough job scaring women away on their own, they do not need our help. We can't help it if they like us better. =D Thank You very much
Isn't it a bit hypocritical that her being raped by a man screws with her mind, and her being molested by a lesbian pedophile "heals" her? I mean, good story, but... Seems like it's a bit anti-man?
Even when you view them all, it's this subtle shot at men, and in a broader array, heterosexuals...
well it is written by a lesbian and i guess what it means by "healing" is that the lesbian was more gentle with her and made fer feel love than the man.
Yes... that's my biggest issue with this piece. This young girl was raped once by a man, and then again by a woman, but she clearly doesn't see the second one as rape. I'm actually going to perform this piece, but I haven't been able to reconcile this huge issue. And yes, the show is clearly anti-man. One one hand, being able to speak freely about these issues is fantastic... but on the other hand, the way this show is written is extraordinarily anti-man and somewhat anti-heterosexuality.
For me, this is about the long-term effects of child sexual abuse. Survivors very often lose the ability to discern healthy relationships, and to enforce their own boundaries. So is the last encounter (with the woman) abuse? Yeah. The woman's way older and gives her alcohol, and afterwards never sees her again. But the narrator rationalizes by acknowledging that she at least learned something from the experience, that her body could feel more than pain & revulsion.
