What is more barbaric is the way we in the western world kill our animals for meat and store it in freezers to satisfy our fat hearts content when we want to. it is our lifestyle of demanding huge quantities of meat that we end up over killing our livestock and breeding far too quickly where the animal has not had a chance to fully live, that's what we do in the west. It may seem bizzare but the far eastern countries have a great deal of respect for the food chain life, unlike us.

There are definite chemical differences between a dead animal and "meat". There are chemical changes that take place in the flesh of an animal that over time will transform it into meat. A freshly killed mammal is not the best mammal to eat. Chickens are different. perhaps snakes are too.
