dude does this sound goes away when you go pass certain RPMs I had the same noise and took it in to a local shop. My timing belt was loose. I had it fix and the noise now sounds more like lifters. that is not a lifter!!!!!!!!
The first thing to do is to listen to a person who know these motors. I've race built and blown up my fair share of 6g72's. Recently I've had that same sound on two different occasions. One on my street car and the other on my race car. One was my AC compressor was coming apart, Crazy. The other a spark plug that got shot out of my # 6 cylinder. My point is check around before you jump the gun. Look at the vital signs. Oil pressure, cylinder to cylinder ect..... It could be simple
dude thats no lifter lmao a lifter is an actual tick this sound like cracked out speed addicted hamster acting like a woodpecker THATS A ROD bud if im not wrong !!!!!
Oh I forgot to mention to, If my suggestion does not work, Drain out your oil from the engine and put about 5 quarts of whiskey in the engine run it redlined for another 5 minutes, This will clean any dirt in the motor. Again, Disregard any unusal engine noises and oil pressure readings and tempature.
Thats just a small little lifter tick, You will be fine, Trying running some 0w-10 weight oil in it and rev it past 10krpm and hold it there for about 5 minutes, The noise should go away then And disregard any oil pressure readings, That is normal. Glad you made this video, Cause its really hard to tell between your 2 questions.
same problem with my 99 SL. deff a rod i had it looked at. question is can u drop the cross member beneath, drop the oil pat like TXT was saying? or is there other steps invovled? thanks.
Mine isn't that bad, you only hear it at start up and sometimes when you accelerate, lay off the gas it goes away. Which is easiest to repair, spun bearing or bad lifter?
you might wanna check your oil level... cause i heard the same noise and my car was burning oil and was 3 quarts low... i did an oil change with Castrol Edge 5-30 and that "knock" disapeared... now if when you change the oil you find metal shavings, then you most likely have a spun bearing and not lifter tick...
you fix it, its not that hard really, remove the oil pan. Find the rod thats not tight, remove the bolts, take out the bearing peices. use a caliper to see if the crank has been misshapend, same for rod, if ok then install new lubed bearing, then clean out oil pan and go hot rod some more. easy weekend job.unless you drive it till it quits running or till the noise stops.
Squeezing 3.0 liters of v6 motor into an engine bay sideways? Someone should hang those design engineers. They have a deal with techs that service these machines.
I almost keeled over an died of laughter when i listened to this and read the title... LOL!... But seriously dude... That's definitely a "tick" and not a "knock"... LOL.
what i don't get WHO THE FUCKING HELL DISLIKES THIS THIS IS FUCKING HELP SECTION! FAGGOT GO HOME ~,~

Here's how to fix the problem: Put a rock on the gas pedal and let it run full throttle for about 20 mins. that should fix it.

It's pretty bad when I type spun bearing on youtube and see nothing but 3000gt vidoes coming up considering I have one!

If there's a dent in your oil pan, bang it out with a hammer. Spun bearing possibility fixed.
