There is no upgrade in OS for the 5IT. I've had mine for a year and that was an issue for it. It is a good device, but I have noticed a sound resembling circuits frying and it was an open box item from Best Buy. Geek Squad recommends an upgrade and will not work on it or send it back to the manufacturer.

The archos 5 is 800 MHz, while the archos 43 is 1 GHz. and i hope there will be a firmware update for the 5, but with the AWSOME 1.5 GHz dual core G9 tablets on the way, it's not very likely.

Does anyone know if the touchscreen on the Archos 43 similar to the ipod touch screen or is it like a styles screen (the one where you have to kind of push on the screen to get a response)

just get a microsd 16 gb class 10 and compress the movies to mkv to at least 2 gb each you shouldn't loose that much quality

yes archos 5 is bet but the companie sucks because they dont want to upgrade the archos 5 to android 2.2 froyo and so the archos 5 has still android 1.6 donut but if the archos 5 will get froyo it will kick as you can hack froyo on it but it is still in alpha 3 when they make a good version of froyo on the archos 5 then it is back in action again

hi , i just get my archos 43 today. had some problem with it. first is its cannot connect to my wifi network. im using a belkin wireless-N model, i have no idea if that gonna make any different. and i went to the archos offical website, trying to register,but the product code offered in the device didnt go though. plz reply. i guess we can go from there

something you should know is that 720 acutally should work fine, because the type of file u were using was mkv, which is probably one of the best but heaviest formats, if u have 720p on wmv or avi then it should load much faster

@zbateni 43 has no gps, the 5 has been hacked to run 2.2 but its buggy

Nice video, but my heart sank when I saw the ghostbusters 4.4gb mkv steam. -Are you sure it wasnt too high a bitrate? (the archos site says 5mbps). The nfo for that video showed >5.

I really dont see why 54mbps wifi isnt able to carry that file without issue.

I forgot to mention: this file also shows 4.1 highprofile, the specs for all new archos tablets show only up to 3.1 supported. -This is going to be a problem, a lot of mkv content gets released with 4.1 :-S

@henke9100 Yes it has a built-in mini HDMI output. You just need a standard type-C mini-HDMI cable or adapter, some can be found for $5. It only records video from the HD camcorder now, my guess is they plan to do a new generation of DVR/VOD/downloader/streamer boxes to compete with Google TV and Apple TV, and that that would be the solution to record. But for now, nope, no DVR recording included on the new devices.

Let's say that when these products are realeased, I will most probably be doubtful about whether I should buy the Arcohs 70 and a separate mini video cam-corder such as kodak zx1 or sony pm5, or if I'm gonna buy the Archos 43, do you think the camera are on the same level as the other mini cam-corders or is it more a fun thing like in a cell phone?

@henke9100 The Archos 43 Internet Tablet HD camcorder is about the same quality as ones in mobile phones. There isn't space for larger optics or sensors.

It's unknown thus far when the gen8 devices will be released, some sites say November. But they were supposed to be released in September, so we got to wait and see.
