I was never a fan of Miss Peters' coloratura due to the first recording I bought of hers. Her chest and middle registers were fine but the top went in a totally different direction. It sounded manufactured unlike this version of QN. Dramatic and even through out. Maybe it was because her voice was already on the decline when I bought that record. Yes Record. LP. lol This QN version is in the ranks of the best. Thank you.
thanks for this remarkable video! ive always considered peters the greatest quenn of the night, in this aria she stands alone, her high f's are like piercing darts, perfectly even, symetrical and totally supported. no one else on record or live that i have heard compares. and of course its not just the high fs--although they are the fiendishly difficult standard by which sopranos singing this aria are judged--`but, her full coloratura brilliance and the complete dramatic force she displays
Just discovered this astonishing singer. Well, clearly I'm really ignorant. One of the things I like the most in this interpretation, is the sober way she uses her technique: everything seems subordinated to the music, I cannot see any narcissistic ostentation of bravura (just the opposite of what some Italian or German singers of today do). Roberta, you so beautiful without any ostentation, may you live for ever in the heart of the music lovers!
Thank you! Roberta Peters is an iconic Queen of the Night. Love the voice; it's not too heavy, and not too light, yet it has all the agility required for this role. It's beautifully projected across the stage and her technique is flawless. Her Gilda in Rigoletto is incomparable and one of the best.
Dramatically very powerful as well as brilliant singing. She really puts the language across. I could hear Schikaneder (who wrote the libretto) behind her character, in HIS great role of King Lear, cursing his daughters in much the same terms -- "Hear! Nature, hear!" SOme of the pivotal words turn up at key moments, and the whole torrent of passion is the same.
What a Magnifique interprepation of " Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen sung by Roberta Peters.
Beautiful voice, charming stage presence and very secure technique. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING IT...I was only 12 years old when I had the opportunity to see Ms. Peters singing at the MET.
.....what an amazing way for a smaller voice to tackle this....queen of the night can be sung like this, too...she will not replace Edda Moser.....but Roberta surprised me.......this is delightful..in its own way......
Terrific! Not a role I would associate with her but she pulls it off fantastically. Her triplets near the end are so well done. It seemed her costume gave her a bit of a challenge to move - one more thing a singer doesn't want to think about.
Brilliant! Thought it was her but the full tone threw me! One of a kind legend! Remarkable artist!

Marvelous! Although the incorrect pronunciation of "Rache" at the end of the aria.

Whoa! Lucia Popp as the First Boy! And to think she would eventually sing the Queen of the Night and Pamina as well.

As Mozart was always one to try to drag the ever level best out of his singers, she indeed made the bill here.
