  • It is very meaningful for launching the Sky Lantern! did you make it yourself?

My baby Emiliano Cyrus also launched the 2 Sky Lanterns to celebrate his 2 years old birthday in Thailand last year, you can watch EmilianoCyrus Channel for " 2 Sky lanterns celebrating Emiliano's 2 years old birthday"

  • I would appreciate if you could help me with these questions:

    1. will tissue paper radiate its color when the lantern is launched at night or will it only show a yellow light emitted by the flame? I'm making one but I want it to display a color, like green or red. if not, would Japanese paper do better?

    2. some lanterns have strings instead of wire to make it 100 % biodegradable, is it possible for a string to withstand the flame, is there such thing as fireproof string? (not fire retardant?)

  • It will only be a matter of time before these are banned in the UK. They are already banned in several countries.

  • what fuel are you using?

  • @rahj8786 The fuel is waxed cardboard. Checkout the video description for a link to the instructions.

  • Can I apply some sheets of waxed paper to an existing sky lantern, or the thing is usually build on limit to support the weight it brings?

I just want to have a balloon that holds for ~20 minutes so I can hoax my friends with a UFO sighting!

  • i think you can use candles for those

  • @toribasher123 We do not suggest using candles as they can drip hot wax.

  • the link in your description is dead

  • @9DragonMaster dam I'm back 6 months later still trying to make one of these.... Got the paper and glue =D

  • how do u make these and how do they not catch trees on fire or a house or somthing?

  • your a baby

  • ohh ya thats a great way to celebrate the earths death

  • is it possible to keep one of these up for hours?

what kind of fuel do you use?

  • we've never heard of or seen a sky lantern that can stay aloft that long. The fuel is sheets of waxed paper or cardboard and they usually stay up for anywhere between 10-20 minutes depending on the size ofhte lantern and the amount of fuel. You would never know how long they actually flew though as they go out of sight long before the fuel has finished burning.

  • @skylighterVideos But...then you lose your canopy?

  • Ned is the man! :D

I read the articles from Skylighter and must say, they're a joy to read. I like everything Ned makes & teaches us.

Keep going with your wonderful idea's.

  • I haven't placed an order in probably 4-6 months. But having studied your last 6 or so newsletters my next order is going to be a doozy I suspect!
