  • Ahh, marc ribot, everytime soo concentrated, such a wonderful musician

with frith, chatbourne, waits, los cubanos postidos, anderson .......

please come back to cologne, once again...

  • What to say...? Many, many thx for you Marc! Beautifully.

  • 最高

  • amazing!! yeah that's it great melody!!

  • 1:03 jaPie

  • 1:03 jaPierdolę

  • Also - gorgeous tone. Lovely and twangy and gutbucket.

  • Ah Marc - that classical training, however brief, really paid off. Really nice arrangement. He always rethinks things in an intelligent way.

  • 17 people will be buying Hannah Montana CDs this year.

  • Man, I had such a crush on her back then. I had almost forgotten how hot she was.

  • a genius.

  • Would love to see him in this type of setting.

  • @Mrsilenciobackgammon I'd love to see him in any setting...I would have loved to hear him with Tom Waits in 08 but no deal.

  • its not a cover..its an improvisation on the tune...

  • 15 people forgot their meds...

  • Is this really a song, or is it just an impro? If not, is there a video of a better quality ?

  • @szekelymihai it sounds like an improvisation on the Beatles' song

  • @szekelymihai Well it depends what you mean by improvisation: some of it is improvised but it follows the "cover" that he recorded on his album "Saints".

  • He was the guitar highlight of the Montreal Jazz fest this last summer. No one else touched him. The dynamic and stylistic range he presented (was in on the Masada Marathon) was INSANE! Plus kickin' with Allen Toussaint southern blues... just lights out after him. Though an eighty-year old pianist out played him overall. Ahmad Jamal is a MONSTER, still! His trio? woah...

  • Now THIS is a great guitar performance of a classic! Sorry about the rest of the covers ...

  • oh yesss~ :D

  • @MrFotorobat

    THE SIMILAR PRISONERS

    cdbaby(dot)com/cd/similarprisoners

  • oh yeah.

  • I love Bill Frisell, John Zorn, John Scofield end many others...but i cannot understand this guy, This is a god cover, but I don't like his attitude: he moves and behives as if he was a great 20 years old post-grunge depressed artist, plus he's technically weak and his jazz solos aren't that great and tend to repeat over and over...basically I hate the attitude of misteriuos artist that he likes to show, but many people feel fascinated by that pose... I love his guitar and amp though.

  • @danlovesnan Check out how he doesnt look at the neck almost at all. Hes connecting to somthing, hes playing from his heart. Thats why he sells albums.

  • @loren1283

ok, but still...I don't like the attitude; it's just my personal taste. Plus many idiots sell lot of albums...he's not one of them, he's a good musician, but that's not a good argument.

  • @danlovesnan Point taken, you dont have to like him, im not really like a huge fan either, I went to one concert, and It was really good. I just have alot of respect for anyone that can make money in music. If they can do it while being themselves, and playing the music thats in their heart well then, its the best thing in the world.

  • @danlovesnan you my friend need to stop playing music, i bet you are either a struggling guitar teacher or just a frustrated musician. You just don't 'get it'. Go back to your true talent; programing software. SQUARE. Please don't be jealous of people with feeling.

  • @cammayhue

...I am not a good player anyway, and I play once a week. I am not frustrated about that, but i just don't like this man too much.

  • It's a really interesting interpretation. I had a lucky chance to email him about composition and music schools; he's very insightful and really knows what he's talking about when it comes to music and composing.

  • today (4.6.10) in swiss "radio drs2" marc ribot's sun ship - live in willisau 30.8.2009, enjoy

  • when are we going to get a beatles covers album.

  • sik with it

  • john Lennon must be better because its his licks and music.. and FOR that reason any cover of HIAW-GUN. is going to sound half good for a start......great to see mark show the respect

  • Love how he hunches over the guitar like a mad scientist performing experiments...

  • nice he made the solo sound indian for george

  • I saw him in vienna with ceramic dog, and had my brain blown out.....in a nice way.

  • it must be a baritone guitar, he's playing here. i love this sound !

  • Sweet version. I just uploaded a cover of my friend and I doing this song. 5 stars!

  • Interesting take on my favourite Beatles-song! One of Lennon´s finest.

  • Looks like an 70's univox to me

  • interesting...anzbody know what kind of guitar that is?

  • I think it's a fender starcaster from the 70's the guitarists from radiohead and death cab use 'em.

  • actually take that back, it's not... :(

  • I think it's an Audition. He tunes it down about a third, and god knows what else to get the sound.

  • @MrFilistine could be a Fender Coronado

  • muy bueno!!!

  • very unique performance.impressive.he is able to emote with his guitar better than most musicians alive today.

  • @rolandsonofstephen obviously you havent heard jeff loomis or antoine dufour, or marc rizzo for that matter.

  • @dimebad wow I posted this a year ago I dont even remember or care what you're talking about lol.

  • Anyone coming to see Marc Ribot in Coventry next week? ...it's his only UK date of the solo tour.

I'm for it ...and interested in any other fans who might be going.

    Any takers?

  • Yep I saw it.

Coventry show was fantastic. Great venue too!

What can you say? Ribot is one of a kind and just gets better and better.

I don't think I have seen a better display of virtuosity, humour and originality on the guitar.I've heard him in many combos but to see him play solo was something else.

Wonderful musician. Thanks for the ispiration and great music Marc!

He was kind enough as well to take the time come out and have a chat after the show...Cool guy

  • I saw he was coming to the UK (thank you Last FM) but knowing I'll be the only one making the trip always puts me off :(

    Arghhhhh

  • what an amazing composition!

    My favourite guitarrist!

  • just beautiful

  • absolutely amazing! one of the greatest guitarist's ever! so much feeling!

  • Does anyone happen to have a transcription of this? I'm skeptical, worth a shot though.

  • Thank you. I love his raw sound and technical abilities.

  • gnarly man!

  • haha he's so cool i've never seen a guitarist play with his head like that before

  • See Picasso

  • the blue guitar !! yeah!

  • Is this the same Marc ribot that plays for Tom Waits?

  • yes the same.

  • The very same

  • He has a catalan name and surname

  • \what about the ending!!!!

  • A truly unique player. He's got so much technique but never grandstands, far more interested in creating a landscape than showing off. Gotta love the guy, most other guitarists certainly do too.

  • I agree. It's cool because most players, myself included, always like to showboat a little.... He just plays the mood and that somehow makes him standout from everyone else.

    ie: Soul

  • ... but you can blithely criticize someone else's amazing performance of it.

  • Touche -__-

  • does this guy remind anyone else of John Fahey? Kinda just his stage presence, and they way they both seem to 'will' their music out of their guitar? and also the darker tonalities?

  • I see it. Also I think that what they might lack in finesse they make up with feel.

Side note - yesterday I came across another Fahey comparison. If you haven't seen, search "Mississippi John Hurt You got to Walk".

  • Yes, exactly, that is what I mean. I'll check out the Mississippi John Hurt . .

  • "Lack of finesse" misses the entire point of this interpretation. It's an inaccurate characterization of Ribot's technique and artistic expression.

  • what kind of guitar is marc playing here?

  • and "Audition" I think. I believe an old Japanese brand not too dissimilar from the likes of Silvertone et al. IT's got mojo.

  • It is really great...!!

  • I love this version. Lovely and soulful.

  • an interesting instrumental version

  • Great!

  • GRACIAS

  • that was nice

  • wonderful. you should check out my buddy Jeff

  • God this version is awesome.
