A real police officer has the right to ask you to stop filming or question you as to why you are filming. As WhiteRabbitm8te pointed out many terrorists film their intended places of target before bombing them. However PCSO's are what me and my father call fake police officers. From my understanding, they may be dressed up as cops but they aren't cops. They can only make citizens arrests like any other member of the public can. So in reality they don't have any more power than a civilian.
what you got to understand is terrorists sometimes film or take pictures of a place they are planning on hitting usually at train stations or places of importance.... Though watching this you dont deal the public is this manner.

The truth is you are allowed to film police officers and you are allowed to film in a public area. Many people record confrontations with the police all the time to protect them in a court case. The PCSO had no right to 'request' him to stop filming (btw if it is a request you dont have to obey), so the 'order' was void.

That PCSO technically assaulted the chap with the camera PCSOs aren't allowed to arrest or touch someone unless they know for definite that they are committing an offence they are only allowed to detain suspects until Police officers appear on scene as they are able to arrest individuals on suspicion of a crime whereas PCSOs have to see it done :-)

The PCSO does have a right to not be filmed, but the guy also has a right to record the incident which he is involved with to use as evidence to protect himself in a court of law, so the PCSO's right is then void. You should also take up simple english grammar lessons.

@gammaguy117 You are correct PCSOs cannot touch anybody in anyway. As with the ID, you only have to produce your ID if you are being suspected of a crime, otherwise you do not have to produce it or infact answer any police questions, you are not obliged to do so.
just so people know, due to british police recruitment being on a low at the moment, most 'real' policemen are recruited from the PCSOs. I suspect a lot of them dont want to be PCSOs, it's just what they have to go through

@Laurence1133 I can see you are just trying to use technical terms to appear like you know what your talking about but you are wrong. The truth is you are allowed to film police officers and you are allowed to film in a public area. Many people record confrontations with the police all the time to protect them in a court case. The PCSO had no right to 'request' him to stop filming (btw if it is a request you dont have to obey), so the 'order' was void.

That PCSO technically assaulted the chap with the camera PCSOs aren't allowed to arrest or touch someone unless they know for definite that they are committing an offence they are only allowed to detain suspects until Police officers appear on scene as they are able to arrest individuals on suspicion of a crime whereas PCSOs have to see it done :-)

@ImActuallyGame Actually they wouldn't. They often take cases like this very seriously. The PCSO has no authority to tell him to stop recording. There is no law stopping anybody to record in a public place. He is also not allowed to touch the man's camera in anyway or touch his person, it is seen as assault. Just saying because I dont believe to know your law, which is a massive problem in society.

The PCSO does have a right to not be filmed, but the guy also has a right to record the incident which he is involved with to use as evidence to protect himself in a court of law, so the PCSO's right is then void. And dont talking about sueing because this guy could actually sue this PCSO for common assault and harrassment. FYI I graduated with a bachelor of law degree. You should also take up simple english grammar lessons.

@gammaguy117 You are correct PCSOs cannot touch anybody in anyway. As with the ID, you only have to produce your ID if you are being suspected of a crime, otherwise you do not have to produce it or infact answer any police questions, you are not obliged to do so.

actually, no one here seems to know the ''law'' the law states, you can film in a public space that is correct BUT police can stop you, if you are causing distress/alarm to a member of public, obstruction of justice, terrorism act (one i dont agree with), suspicion of an unlawful act whilst filming. you can film someone without their consent in a public space, but for any of those reasons can be stopped. you can be made not to film a crime scene. learn the law people.
