    My Dad is trumpet player Don Smith. Not sure if he's on this recording though. Did your grandfather play with any other band leaders?

  • I was fortunate enough to hear these and this band live in Dublin in 1953 on a crazy weekend of Kentonitis, fabulous. Lee's silver tones against a purple background, I talked with him once and expressed the surprise that I experienced when I heard he was in the band before the event, but how wonderfully I thought he fitted in and what a new experience he brought to the event. Laconic as ever, he just said sald you enjoyed it. Ice Cream Konitz to the extreme.
