@wildcman Yes it did, back in 1951 and was listed in Billboard in1952.It was reissued later by RCA on 4566.It has been posted on Youtube. It is cool. Thanks for dropping by... :)
@purpledivaification In my music class, our teacher had us sing this and we made little paper easter eggs with a little chick inside. the egg would "crack" open to reveal the little chick. LOVE THAT MEMORY!
I searched for this on Google 5 years ago or so with no joy! Only a Lyric website that wanted to charge me, but I really wanted the tune. I was taught this in elementary school (Canada) 40 odd years ago and had no idea the wonderful Rosemary Clooney recorded it. No one in my life 20 years later had ever heard of it!
@3catnite Many different artist recorded this song,it was even recorded by her sister Betty Clooney. But this is my favorite version.Thank you for sharing with us and for stopping by.. :)
@mezskr4 Betty Clooney's recording is actually a different song - and a different spelling too as 'Egbert The Easter Egg'. Rosie's 'Eggbert' song was composed by Sid Tepper & Roy C. Bennett, while her sister Betty recorded 'Egbert' for a children's label called Golden Records - and that song was composed by Corday-Carr. There is now a clever edit of the two different songs uploaded onto 'youtube' by rosemaryclooneytunes
@kester1940 Yes it has many sound enhancements to appeal to children,She recorded it with The Sandpipers.Appricate the information.Stop by anytime... :)
We have been signing this song for years at Eastertime--mostly to annoy my Dad and brother! I did not know the actual song has the same lyrics twice... They will be soooo happy to hear our new version this next year!
Thank you Mom for introducting us to Eggbert, and thank you Allison for this link.
The bridge of this tune, beginning at 0:40 is musically almost identical to the bridge of "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" but it's still an enjoyable record.
I have this song on an EP 45 with the other three songs "Little Johnny Chickadee", "My Chocolate Rabbit" and "Bunny On the Rainbow".
