  • Known as the Evanston Express before all the El lines went color coded...

  • @parkman35 Cool! I didn't know that, and I live in Evanston ;-)

  • These red line trains are undercompensating.

1 2-car set? Shame on the CTA, they should take some lessons from the NYCTA/MTA

  • 1:37 that guy was totally like, "why the hell are you recording?" hahaha. I live like 10 mins from there!

  • @x3omgitsme Yeah, LOL.

  • DC subways look much cleaner inside and newer inside. orange carpet, orange padded seats.

  • @veeseee128 Thanks - I'd like to visit DC someday :-)

  • If it wasn't for the trains, I'd say that the first scene was shot somewhere in the UK

  • @allinlodz cool - I'd like to visit the UK someday. :-)

  • @DaveJLin So do I ;P And the US as well ;-)

  • I like the bell sound

  • @mrpower328 "Ding Dong ..." :-)

  • why are they so short?

  • @nasansia I don't know - maybe more aerodynamical that way.

  • @nasansia

the train cars or are you asking why isnt there not many cars on this train....."

  • @nasansia no, its just ridership is not high on the evanston segment of the purple line

  • @pawpawnorth why is a main transport route in the middle of a city not busy at off peak times? at least for a 6 car service every 5 min? Do people use public transport or what?

  • @nasansia I believe it was very early in the morning when I took those ... it's fairly quiet then. It gets more crowded later in the day, especially during the morning/evening rush hours, when people are going to work. Then it's standing room only, though not nearly as bad as the Japanese sardine-packing trains.

  • Comment removed

  • @nasansia The purple line generally runs two car trains except during the morning & afternoon commutes when 6 car trains are mixed in that run all the way to the loop.

  • It looks like a narrow guage railway.

  • @pdlsteeler1 Cool, thanks!

  • I took the "L" for the first time since I came here! The red line from grand to cermark and it was fun! But only if can I get a cta connection from Waukegan then I would go to Chicago almost every day!!!

  • @rippen100 Cool. Well, you can always take the Metra from Waukegan to Chicago.

  • @DaveJLin Metra is kind of slow you know, last labor day I waited 2 hous for the train and when came downtown chi-town there tons of cta bus & rail. Cta is more rapid than rta btw that something I have deal with. I just wondering if their a connection to the cta but thanks anway! :D

  • @rippen100 Yeah, Metra is on a tighter schedule ... and costs more!

  • @rippen100 you got your stuff messed up, RTA own CTA,pace, and Metra. CTA comes more frequently, as Metra is more of a scheduled system, as CTA is just wait for it to come, and there are no free Metra-L connection, but there are close stations (Ogilvy-Clinton on the Green Line), (Union Station-Clinton-Blue Line), Lasalle Station-Lasalle-Blue Line), and Millenium (Randolph-Wabash, Purple Line Express, Brown, Pink, Orange, Green)

  • @pawpawnorth Lol! calm down all I just sayin was cta is faster and better than pace & metra and there was some way to catch it from waukegan that's what I meant from "connection" but thanks anyway!

  • It kinda, sorta, maybe annoyed me that you never pointed the camera out towards the window, so we can see what the EL was passing

  • @AFurryToon Good idea ... I'll try that next time. Thanks.

  • @DaveJLin Yes you totally should. I would very well enjoy it. And this was a cool video, I was just expecting to see how it would look if you pointed the camera out towards the window :)

  • what the CTA Train and Subway should do is announce what destination they'll arrive because what if someone is reading the newspaper and didn't pay attention to the stop

  • @funnykidyyz Do you mean while riding inside the car? Yeah, there's an automated announcement that alerts which stop the train is at. You can hear, "This is Dempster. Doors closing," in the video. They also announce what is the next stop after departing the last one.

  • Since when do they run two-car trains during off peak on the purple line? It's been a while but I remember it used to be four.

  • @Linguistmm44 At the time I took the video, between Linden and Howard, there's actually 2 kinds of Purple Lines during the peak hours, one that only goes between Linden and Howard, and one that goes all the way from Linden to the Loop (and back). The two-car trains run just between Linden and Howard (not all the way to the Loop), since relatively few riders need just this local service during peak hours.

  • These trains are a testament to US train design Awful

  • @toppackage LOL

  • A train with only two cars at the beginning of video? I can't think of two many subway lines around the world where you'd see only two cars in a train.

  • @303Gregg At the time I took the video, between Linden and Howard, there's actually 2 kinds of Purple Lines during the peak hours, one that only goes between Linden and Howard, and one that goes all the way from Linden to the Loop (and back). • i saw me in the first subway underground scene

  • @t3subde Cool! You're immortalized ;-)

  • I hope you catch the cta series 5000 cars!!! I think you can ride them on the red line.

  • What is the name of this subway car? :P

  • @Dinosbacsi There's lots of nicknames ... such as "the El," which stands for "Elevated," since portions of the track are elevated above street level, especially in the downtown Loop area.

  • @DaveJLin But... I wanna know it's name/type :D

    Like the R36, understand? :P

  • @Dinosbacsi I think they're called the CTA 6000 series.

  • @DaveJLin Okay, thanks ^^

  • @Dinosbacsi No, they're called the 2400 series

  • @thepod24 thanks for the correction

  • Amazing video! The best part is when you went from the purple line to the red line.

  • @Trainryder618 Thanks! It's funny: I've posted 167 videos to date, and for some reason, this one is the most popular of them all so far.

  • @DaveJLin Im trying to post Cta videos but im trying to get it as good as you guys. If im lucky, maybe ill catch the new 5000-series cta car

  • @Trainryder618 Cool! Best of luck with your videoing. I haven't seen the new cars yet, but will definitely be on the lookout thanks for the heads up!

  • @DaveJLin Thanks! They said they were testing it this or next week.

  • I took this Purple Line all the time when i was staying at the Best Western at Dempster. They're pretty fast on time, especially the Express ones. BUT Union Station is cunt fest, everyone we [my friends and I] talked to was a complete dick about everything FYI

  • @ShieldsJustice Yah, I usually get more help from drifters on the street.

  • These trains are so ugly!

  • Function over Form ;-)

I think they were designed in the 70's.

    Retro!

  • Yeah, you learn to like the backwards design on the CTA. Even the newest of the trains the CTA uses are almost 20 years old at this point.

  • Two train cars? I'm not from chicago, but that doesn't seem right... lol

  • The Purple Line is a very short run from Howard Station up to Wilmette. The video was taken early in the morning, and the train was north-bound (against the traffic into the city).

  • Ah, ok. Thanks for the info.

  • I like the rusty dirty trains.

    Makes them looked used.

  • cta redline train on fire 8 car redline train caought on fire today int he subway the fire started at rossevelt and stop at north and clybourn cheack yo news this is bad

  • good thing no one got hurt in it

  • the second city i went on it once in boot camp. good subway but im a new yorker

  • Inside looks like New York City buses

  • That's interesting ... thanks ... I look forward to riding an NY City bus some day :-)

  • mmmm thanks

  • When I was in Chicago I rode in a subway and it was all old and rusty inside it was CTA

  • Completely clean now.

  • oohhhhh i so miss that

    im sick of swizerland >:-(

  • wow - I'd love to visit switzerland!

  • well i supose if you never bin there its worth visiting! but after 10 years it gets really boering
