When did this song come out? 1983? I was 5, totally addicted to watching MTV (thank you Dad for letting me), and this was always one of my favorites. This & Rosanna by Toto.
I love this song. I remember once, I was in surgery and the doctor asked me what radio station i listened to and this song was playing before I fell asleep.
I'm wondering how they worked out the whole apple peeling thing altogether, Was Bryan Adams just like "Okay guys i'm going to peel this apple i think it would connect with people" xD
@marcus1548: Haha. Being a true Gen-X'er myself, and remembering watching MTV the first week it came out, I can tell you, this video is symbolic of just that exact nonchalance..."hey, then I'll drop the apple and THEN grab a guitar". Videos were low budget and still cool. signed--Born in 1970.
@plusone19 Flock of Sea Gulls had girls dressed in trash bags and other groups were doing "star wipes" & Colour distortion filters! No one did any big budget vids till Thriller back then.
I think this band is the only good thing to come out of Canada myself. takes me back to the years of joy. now's it's only bill's and more bill's. how the fuck did this happen? I sound like my dad most day's. Damn!!!!
people say that often. there was some good music, but there's alot of great music out there now. basically radio has lost it's credibility these days, so you have to do some work. my first show was the Clash, very lucky, but I am so stoked to see Andrew Bird or Beirut, or I dunno. Love it now.
I'm from this era, too. Damn, it makes me feel old, but we sure had some ass-kickin' music back then! I still wanna know who that spankin' beautiful babe was in that video! A man never gets too old to appreciate good looks!
@Morganizer why thank you for that, i didnt know how to play this song, thanks for the tabs. But i do know how to play guitar. Ive played Living on a Prayer an Summer of 69 in two different talent shows so far. and The best song i can play is Panama-Van Halen. You can check out Panama on my channel, i do guitar tutorials. If you have a suggestion please feel free to leave a comment on my channel and Subscribe :)
I'll tell you, the 80's were a time of great hopefulness. In the midst of the cold war, and rising awareness of environmental degradation, people had vision that things could be different. All those asymmetrical haircuts and kooky fashion statements were expressions of that hope. Now constant change has become the norm, and people accept that there's nothing they can do except go along for the ride. And that's reflected in the music. You can't write 'different' pop songs without that hope.
I also grew up during the 80's and it was AWESOME!!!!!! I didn't think that the 80's would make such a HUGE come back. You see alot of the clothing trends kinda look the same as when we were younger. They only thing missing is the Swatch Watches. It just goes to show that we definetly lived in a kick ass era. Well next to the 60's from what I understand.
I grew up with this awesomeness. Lots of weird ass low budget videos were made in the 80's. These videos had little or nothing to do with the song, but that was o.k. because at least you got to see the band. These videos sold a lot of records for the artists. We need more M in the MTV and more V in the VH1 so more people can discover or rediscover this era in music. Fuck the reality t.v. bullshit.
@clownsfartconfetti And all of these videos had at least one thing in common: beautiful girls. There was always some sexy, scantly dressed girl somewhere in the video. This is a classic example. By the way, I don't know who that girl is, but she's one the hottest girls from those 80's videos.
2. This is what i want, to write songs, get a record deal, and bring this stuff backk, now i know it wont happen for a while since im only 14, but that would be AWESOME, i would listen to justin bieber if he wrote this kinda music, hell, id pay big bucks to see bieber front row, backstage pass if he wrote and played this kinda music
@superstickysid I learned how to play guitar, and a lot about songwriting by listening to Bryan Adams. It's really accessible for a beginner, and a great education. I'll help you with this one: put a capo on your first fret, to get in the same key (producers like to tune the band up a 1/2 step to make the vocalist reach). Chords are D G A, and the fourth one is Bm. (I remember panic every time that one came around -- but you'll get it!)
After a lot of searching: the video features the beautiful Lysette Anthony - as claimed by "Jeff" from Liverpool on songfacts and confirmed in the IMDb.
Something that surprises me is that nobody has stepped up to upload the opening track to this album (Cuts Like A Knife), The Only One. That is shocking to me. It's my favorite BA song, by far. Opens the record perfectly.
@dakjargen I prefer the source-song Lonely Nights.
Another gem that is hardly played is Don't Leave Me Lonely. It was co-written by Kiss' Eric Carr. A version of either will do.This is the 20th death anniversary of EC, dying on the same day as Freddie Mercury. RIP to Freddie Mercury and Eric Carr.
@WineSippingCowboy Yeah Don’t Leave me lonely is good, but I ruined this record when I was a kid. My favorite song Bryan Adams song then, was This Time. I liked it then, but now, I’m not a fan because I have a station here that has been playing it every day for the last 7 years. I heard Cuts Like a Knife in it’s entirety on our rock station about 5 years ago, and I struck me how good The Only One is. It's my fav.
Hi there... this song was so great!!! If someone who can upload its video karaoke version then it would be so much appreciated.... Also, "Do i have to say the words", "It's only love", and "Rescue me" karaoke. Thanks
i remember seeing this for the first time thinking pretty cool song. Never thinking I would still be singing it with the same enthusiasm some 30 years later at midnight. A great song is a great song forever.
