I don't really understand this.. A full frame sensor would mean depth of feild is more shallow, and I don't see how this is undesireable, it's the shallow depth of feild that's hard and often expensive to achieve anyway... Besides, I doubt anyone would buy into a flagship Nikon pro dslr and just use the stock lens for everything anyway!

I assume Mr Bently means the depth of feild is less great. A crop sensor will afford greater depth of field (not shallower) perfect for landscape photography. Its the same when you compare a DSLR with a APS-C size sensor to a bridge or compact camera.. the smaller sensor will afford you greater depth of field.. but for that beautiful shallow depth of field say in portraits, macro then you can't beat full frame.

there is no stock lens :S unless you say its the 24-70mm but that does well in most places. Other than that i don't think this guy knows much about photography other than reading of a sheet and a little online research.

lol no it isn't. not in any way. The gadget show has compared high preformance film cameras with hih preformance digital and digital won.

They compared the D700's quality with the F5's quality and printed the size of a large building.

Also. film cameras have nowhere near the practicality. I use 35mm film, 120mm film and digital. and the D3 beats any 35mm film i've used(i've used the f100)

not that film photography isn't awesome of course. Thats why I still use it. but for work: Digi

you obviously have no idea what you are talking about...fair enough film in mf is a hell of alot better but show me a film that has as little noise at those asa/iso show me a scanner that can pull that res at usable qualities from print film. it has a larger contast than any film doesnt need developing and you can see shots as soon as you take them...colour grade oh wait and 11fps..

trust me i love film and shoot leica but 35mm < fx digi these days

Nikon trumps canon all over and i see a lot of disgruntled canon fanboys, Really 1D Mark III has no chance in overall superiority of speed, metering, and IQ against the D3, the 1D mkiii might have more cross type sensors, and a greater burst rate, but from field reviews that i have heard, D3 is as fast in Autofocus and 9 fps is plentiful, and add much better dynamic range because of full frame for the D3 and obviously million times better noise performance.Nikon Rules.

haha what ever the 1d mk3 has better noise and sharpness at all but the highest iso if you used both cameras you would know that....i love the d3 but reality doesnt change because of hwo much i prefere nikon.

the d3 is a much better camera ...you just have to look through the viewfinder or use the af to know that...hell you just have to pick both cameras up blindfolded and you can tell. But saying silly fanboyish lies doesnt constitute as valid debate.

Best dslr so far, far better than the troublesome canon 1d mk3 which has probably also be surpassed by the nikon d300..

the canon 1ds mk3 may have more pixels than the D3 but doesnt have the performance to mtach. and anyway its technically more of a studio camera and in that area it will never ever compete with Hasselblad. so the 1ds mk3 is really rather a pointless camera.

have you used any of the canon systems this year?? skin colour is really quite bad and way off with flash systems. the E3 gets it spot on everytime. and the noise level is very very low on the E3-sell them-use them every day and try them against each other!

and i have seen at least 5 of my photographer friends who work in advertising, travel and sport change from the 5D, canon, to the nikon and olympus E3! canon need to get a grip of noise and white balance! all way off the olympus mark they set with the E1 years ago!

Are you saying the E1 was low noise? Noise was the worse thing about it. It had great big chinky colour noise at anything less that perfect lighting. Everyone knows Canons are best for low noise.

try it... it really is very nice. forget the 1DS mk whatevers pixels.. a clean image with little or no noise levels at high iso is what the D3 gives u... but i would pop for the E3, half the price and has even higher picture quality!

Nice camera but it doesn't compete with the Canon 1DS MkIII nor was it meant to. It compares nicely to the most recent Canon 1D.
