Product is good for people who like internet sharing and who don't have much computer knowledge.

It could be if it was hacked (not at the moment). Check the other plugs (pogoplug, tonidoplug, sheevaplug). More features and hackable to work for your needs. Are useable without internet connection too.

Not sure about the Dockstar, just contact seagate directly. They should be able to clear things up.

Home network = local (you can have a network without the internet)

Internet = world wide web

Yep, $30. If interested get the Pogoplug unit. Does the same thing, but Fee lifetime internet sharing.

As in Nas? Kind of if you have an INTERNET CONNECTION and software installed. It does not have media server capabilities though. I bought this then returned it. The video is misleading. You need an INTERNET CONNECTION even if you're looking at it locally. You can't just plug it in and it will show up on your network where you can read/transfer/write files. You have to have the pogoplug software installed if you don't want to use a web browser.

You would still need to upload the files if they were being viewed by somebody else from the web. You would just be uploading on demand of view rather than uploading it once and giving the link as needed.

So basicly if you have slow upload speed it would be a pointless thing to have as you wouldnt be able to upload it fast enough for people to view if it was a video file.
