There are slum lords and slum dwellers, just as there are developers and working class renters. If land ever belongs to anyone, it has always belonged to everyone. People are pushed out of their traditional lifestyles in rural settings, and expected to put up with death by starvation or poisoning.
They move into the city and you expect them to act nicely when they are told that they are stealing land? Remember that they are still living way under the poverty line.
See, these people are squatters, and they are getting in the way of general economic progress. The demolition will allow new houses to be built. This will benefit society as a whole, as the supply of housing units increases.

A dear relative of mine committed suicide because his land was illegally taken over by a slum lord. his appeals to the dwellers to give back HIS land was fruitless and they even threatened to kill him. This good man killed himself. Take my word for it - slum dwellers are not as pathetic as the media potrays them to be. Just like my relative, hundreds of thounsands of hectares is taken over illegally. if demolition is the only way to get justice then DEMOLISH them!!!
