I'm surprised that some people think James is "scamming" his fans. He'd have a LOT to lose by doing that. Being a popular internet videomaker is his career. @Epicsniper3x Not to mention, Arch IS making money because like all YT partners, they get revenue whenever they make content (he even said that he made millions of dollars on one of his videos). @mikerants He isn't 'using' his fans. Think about it, If i want to donate money, it will be towards something that I like, something that i consent to. It's everyone's free will to donate, clearly everyone who has wants to see him succeed and progress. His job has been making video on YouTube and so on, it's not that much to tell your fans that you're accepting donations for a feature film. He was also very modest and humble in his announcement, it's not as if he was a shady conman or anything.

You're right in that you can't really assume what James' financial situation is like unless if you personally know him and you can tell that James isn't a demanding hack who's really e-begging in the slightest.
I question people who donate $1000, but it's their money, not mine and it's admirable that they want to support him with that much money to help.

Morally speaking, you could always argue that the money would be better donated to a charity, but James has inspired and entertained millions of people for years; many are jumping at the chance to be part of that. The only point that I can think to bring up seems to support your standpoint. Look at the background images of his videos (as I am sure you have). His walls are lined with products that doubtlessly cost him a significant sum of money on eBay or some similar site. Observing that, nobody of any intelligence can deny that AVGN has a significant amount of $ at his disposal to spend on his interests.

Sorry if someone already brought this up, but I'm not sure if all of those items where purchased himself. I'm sure some was, however he has stated, and it's most likely true, that he's received a lot of donations from his fans. Most of course towards his game collection, but I'm sure some have donated nintendo memorabilia.

Big name directors have millions of dollars in the bank, but they normally don't pay for the projects they direct. I suppose the difference here is that investors won't get their money back, but for a fan to be part of helping him get onto the big screen, it can be a really important thing for them.

@mykindom666 I feel that Archfiend is being kneejerick about James becoming bigger. He speaks as if his content is tainted by the money. Sure, it may be to some extent, as a fan myself who still thinks he makes a good product. But to me, Archfiend is blowing this way out of proportion. I think he forgets that James isn't just the AVGN, he's a filmmaker in general and he stated in the past that this was his ultimate goal. For fuck's sake, he's been working his whole life for his success...

@mykindom666 I know this is a long comment, but Archfiend's video reminds me of these people who have a problem with people wanting to be big in the industry just because they may have a large paycheck with it. As a musician, I find it pretty fucked up that I could be written off as a sellout to make writing music my job. I don't see Archfiend's problem. He might as well accuse someone like Nolan for being a sellout for making The Dark Night.

Arch is a pathetic, arrogant and bitter asshole. He's simply guessing and treats his opinion as an unchallangeable feast of facts, therefore he is incapable of taking ANY form of a negative comment or criticism even it's constructive, (he's deleting them and block people who don't agree with him). Saying stuff like James just using his fans and wishing his movie to fail are not only ridiculous, but they just reek of jealousy. You on the other hand made a levelheaded response. Thank you!:D

Ok, i was a fan of TheArchFiend but then i posted a comment on his video and he BLOCKED me, because he is a pussy who cant handle the truth. Well he just lost a fan. He is a hypocrite also he says that James is a money grubber, but he is the one who replies to comments saying "Thank$ for Watching this video." Now we see who is the real money grubber.

So if Arch is making money, what's the point of him arguing about that when he and James are doing the exact same thing? Archfiend isn't even worth putting in a "VS" with James, this asshole is a nobody who's looking to target someone who's massive success he wishes he had. James has always been good to his fans, so to accuse him of using his fans for financial gain out of the blue is ridiculous. But the final straw was wishing his movie fails, that was a pathetic show of bitter jealousy. Bottom line, fuck that slurred speaking asshole. He'll never even be a fraction as popular as Irate Gamer, much less James.

@mikerants He isn't 'using' his fans. Think about it, If i want to donate money, it will be towards something that I like, something that i consent to. It's everyone's free will to donate, clearly everyone who has wants to see him succeed and progress. His job has been making video on YouTube and so on, it's not that much to tell your fans that you're accepting donations for a feature film. He was also very modest and humble in his announcement, it's not as if he was a shady conman or anything.

Your absolutely right, Archfiend has no foundation to his argument when it comes to Jame's finances. To me, in my honest opinion, Archfiend made himself out as a arrogant/ignorant youtuber that was looking for attention. You can find evidence in his video, and all the comments he replies too those who disagree with him. Thanks for making a levelheaded response. :D

I wanted to post on archfiends video, but then realised how pointless and futile it would be to respond/feed such a douche. The guy has no idea/care for life outside of his own bubble, and seemingly jumps to quickly to comment on others pursuits before truly researching enough to pass judgement. NO ONE has made any of the fans donate, neither has James EVER stated that you HAVE to donate for the film to be made. Secondly for Arch-bag to ever wish failure on James is disgusting.

@longview161 To be fair to Archfiend, that is probably what he does with many of his videos. You see popular Youtubers do it often, they only leave the comments section open for a specific time. The reason for that is that their inbox gets cluttered with comments and it allows them to focus on their most recent videos. Thanks for commenting.

Excellent video. I'm not a massive fan of the Archfiend, but even so his arguments on James Rolfe are completely unfair for the most part.
You're right in that you can't really assume what James' financial situation is like unless if you personally know him and you can tell that James isn't a demanding hack who's really e-begging in the slightest.
I question people who donate $1000, but it's their money, not mine and it's admirable that they want to support him with that much money to help.

Well said, but your point about not knowing where his money goes and if he's in debt, paying med bills, etc. than he is absurdly irresponsible as a human being to bring in a project like this while in sure dire times.
My bottom line is that this guy doesn't appear to be fiscally responsible. He SHOULD have hundreds of thousands of dollars to show from his run on the internet. The fact that he doesn't shows that he either makes bad deals or just sucks with money. People SHOULD be suspect.

The only point that I can think to bring up seems to support your standpoint. Look at the background images of his videos (as I am sure you have). His walls are lined with products that doubtlessly cost him a significant sum of money on eBay or some similar site. Observing that, nobody of any intelligence can deny that AVGN has a significant amount of $ at his disposal to spend on his interests.

Most of course towards his game collection, but I'm sure some have donated nintendo memorabilia.

@andrewmullins11 I can't really say, as I don't know what his financial situation is. What I will say is that I think this is entirely different from ebegging. Big name directors have millions of dollars in the bank, but they normally don't pay for the projects they direct. I suppose the difference here is that investors won't get their money back, but for a fan to be part of helping him get onto the big screen, it can be a really important thing for them.

Neither fans nor viewers nor ranters have ever stopped any of the others from existing.
