I rate Naheed Akhtar above Nur Jehan. Naheed was the real icon of Pakistani singing before a set of complex circumstances had her sidelined from singing while Nur Jehan was establishing a firm foothold in Lahore. Urdu and Hindi are one and the same language, linguistically speaking. There's just some difference of vocabulary. The reason they're often considered to be two different languages is political, not linguistic.

"woh lubb hein ke hai wajd mein mauj-e-kausar"

'kausar' is supposed to be a river in paradise

'mauj'=wave, tide, current; 'lubb'=lips; 'wajd'=trance

So the verse means something like:

Aah her lips! They're like waves dancing hypnotically in the rivers of paradise!

@ithinkthere4 Spoken Urdu and Hindi might be similar but academic versions differ quite significantly. This is something I know by living with some of my Indian friends in the US. they could not understand the Persian and Arabic found in literary Urdu and I'd struggle to understand the Sanskrit in their Hindi when they'd read out bhajans etc.

This is an Urdu translation of a centuries old Persian poetry. The translation was done by perhaps the most intellectual Pakistani associated with the film-industry in Pakistan, Sufi Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum. I believe he passed away in the early 60's and was Lahore based. The original poetry is by none other than Amir Khasro.

Ghulam Mustafa also translated another Persian poetry by Ghalib in Punjabi, was sung by Ghulam Ali in a Ghazal format; Teray Shauq Da Nai Aitabaar Tenu.

Tauba = Pleading for Allah's forgiveness, metaphor for an earth shattering event.

Kauser = A cistern of some delicious liquid from which the holy prophet will serve the faithful on the day of judgment.

This is Ameer Khoosro`s Kalam, you can easily find his books in Pakistan and I am not sure about translated version of his Kalam. It Re-vitalize the sole isnt it. Unfortunatly we forgot our great Sophis.
