  • we cant see the freekin dog...

  • There's a dog in this video?

  • hahaha i didn't even realize the black dog on black carpet i was more focused on learning a way to teach a dog to heel.

  • whats with the stupid annotation? i need to actually SEE it.

  • what breed of dog is this? it's huge!

  • This is the method I was shown how to start my dog heeling after she was not doing well in her class. After doing this , it turned her around and she did way better

  • When I was trying to train a dog to heel a long time ago and nothing was working in a class I was in, I went to a friend of mine out of town finally to ask her questions because she was a certified dog trainer. This is the method she showed me to get her started and it worked really well. It made a world of difference. When I went back to my dog classes here in town, the lady was mad at me because she felt that method should only be done by show people. I think she was nuts for saying that.

  • It would be good if it wasn`t a black dog against a black floor - can`t see anything !

  • Look an invisible dog!

  • treating and luring your dog is a waste of time and energy.

i have a technique that inspires the dog to heel of his own desire. i never give a command, and the dog doesn't even know what "heel" means.

i dont' have to pursuade him to do anything but break the heel command, which i accomplish by saying, "okay. okay.... okay." :D he doesn't believe me, so i have to tell him enough times that it's okay to run around.

  • the thing is some dogs are uninterested in food rewards or even toys.

  • @cowgirl707707 Perhaps you need to up the ante. What kind of treats are you using? Have you tried hotdogs, strips of chicken or (cooked) fish, peanut butter, cottage cheese, or high-protein treats like Wellness? My dog HATES the traditional biscuits. His favorite treat (for training purposes only, of course) is bits of hotdog.

  • but this dog is already trained. we tried to train him and we took back the treat cause he didn't deserve it and he growled!

  • your dog is food agresive you need to fix that quick

  • love your technique thanks man

  • Ischoco, the way you teach a dog to heel is by first training them to stay on your left side, as is shown in this video. Notice how she phases out actually holding a treat ("lure") in her left hand to prompt the dog to sit. She went from luring the dog with a treat, to giving hand signals and then treating separately, and the final step would be to phase out the treat completely and replace it with praise. You don't do this in everyday life-- you do this PRIOR to using the heel command outside.

  • that did not help at all

when do we ever do that kind of crap when we walk our dogs??

  • funny all i say to my dog is ....You come and he does! no treats because he knows who the boss is.

  • oh wow! so knowing you are the boss helps him understand the english language?

  • bet it makes him a fatty. he'll have to get on slimfast

  • he doing it because you have a treat. How long will it take to train this way and how reliable is the training with out a treat in your hand. You can brib a dog to do most things with a treat and peope call it training. You don't see police handles walking around with a bad of treats. I know you don't want a police dog but would you like your dog to listen like one? sit, down, come, heel on one command and happy to do it because you told him to and all you gave him for reward was your verbal praise

  • you start with a lure and phase it out, it is basic behaviorism. You randomize when they get a treat. You could train with out it, but this speeds the process and its also nice for the human to get to give treats to their "good dog". ^_^

  • It's true. The randomization makes them more eager. Just like when you're crazy about someone who only phones you every 3rd time they promise to :-D

  • Rottieroc120, I agree that if if you train ALL the time with a treat, the dog comes to expect a treat whenever they do anything. But not all dogs are very motivated (at first) by verbal praise. Most trainers will start to make it more difficult for a dog to earn a treat by giving a string of commands, and then treating only after the dog has successfully done each one. Look up the "Nothing In Life Is Free" method of training. :) That might help to explain it better.

  • lessthan3luv the user mcsilvers explained what trainers do. I start out with treats all the time and then I make it random with praise and phase out the treats or reward until it is no more....they know the commands and do them without treats now. In my opinion if you or someone believes that training a dog with treats is a bad method of training, then me and numerous good trainers out there would have to say you're already a crappy trainer. Good trainers use what works best for the dog.

  • This is more helpful as a "how to camouflage your dog".

  • The dog is right there. Maybe she should try to use a brighter colored dog? like a golden or maltese

  • wherS Da DoG..?

  • How to train your invisible dog

  • omg hehe thats wut i was thinkn

  • It is so easy similar as training a normal dog.

normal dog is trained by olfactory and view sense ability. a invisibal one is trained by olfactory and touch sense ability sense.

  • @BL0ODYMARY Ha funny!

  • A training video featuring a black dog on a black floor with a black shirted trainer? She could be teaching Elvis to sit for all we can see!

  • hahahaha

  • mg: treat training is wrong on several levels. the "experts" who tell you it's fine either have treats to sell or a training system to sell.

hate to see what happens when you have your dobe do a command if you don't having some treats with you...could be stitches involved.

  • to those who say training with treats is dangerous:

this is a viable and effective training technique. you train the dogs using treats every time, then stop giving a reward and only reward intermittantly. so the dog keeps trying knowing that it *might* gain the reward. why do people in las vegas continue to play the slot machines even though they most likely wont win. because of intermittant rewarding. that chance that they might hit the jackpot is enough to drive them to play.

  • lol...i dont think its so wrong..a good trainer can/will use several methods to train, mixing and matching what works for different dogs..my first pitbul was not food motivated he was play motivated..lots of drive..so obviously a food lure did not work..the promise of play and bite work after the excercise was his reward..

  • No you use treats at first. then once the dog has got the command down then you start just using praise.

  • The video isn't hard to see and using treats is ok according to most experts. This is exactly how i trained my dobe to get into the heal position. it works very well. Treats are not necessary but they are ok. Positive reinforcement is the best way to make your best friend do what you ask it to.

  • umm. that is not how u train a dog with treats.

  • To the one who asked about food lure, it's important when first training, plus they learn to watch your hands as body language. Also, when I first taught heel, I made my pup sit, then walked up next to her. She has my vote for getting the dog to sit next to her! Tinarett, a little dog is done just like a big dog, except maybe you bend a little bit to get his/her attention.

  • How do you do this with a 6 inch high yorkie puppy??

  • in our obedience class we were told you can't move your feet while trying to get the dog into the heel position? Is it only for the competition training that you can't move your feet?

  • i think whats more impressive is how she has made all but the dogs head dissapear.. thats impressive HAHA

  • black dog on dark carpet.....what a genious!

  • so, you cant get your dog to follow commands without food?

  • I think we can.. we need it first to get their attention and then give it to them randomly

  • evrything is practicly black

    not bad video

    colors r yuck

  • Nice, only next time try not to video something black in a black backround... This dog is almost invisible...

  • This is the same way the lady taught her dog to dance with her at a competition. Search for it on Dog Dance. Its so clever!

  • Black dog on black mats.....

  • LOL i think she just poured black paint over it

  • And you go learn that a dog doesn't do anything that doesn't benefit it, weather the benefit is getting a treat, a toy, a praise, or to avoid their owners bad behavior (such as punnishing the dog, or correcting it physically) you'll see ethically, that it's way better to teach a dog to heel using treats, then physical corrections.

  • try it with your dog... nyway if u think there is a better way then u put a video on it and i'll be intrested in watchin it. dogs love attention and they like praise and treats.

  • Even humans are motivated by reward. Do you go to work for free because you just like your boss? Money slave?

  • Would you please tell me the way you can treat a dog without rewarding it Please do. Find me links if you desire, put up your own video. I really am curious.

  • I agree. I only use treats when the dog responds to that better than praise (a withdrawn dog for example)

  • hahahaha

steal mah damn dog go ahead not like i cant find the delinquent sooner or later

  • a great and very clear technique. I hope you don't mind if I link your video to our forum in Indonesia so our member can get benefit from your video. Thanks

  • why learn? go robber Chinese there, that's what indonesians are doing or used to do.

  • That was really good instruction that I will use with my dog. I had never seen how to bring the dog around to sit by my side, and to move my leg.

  • That's a great technique thanks, kinda hard to see the dog though.
