  • Ligeti, anyone?

  • hey

can u do a highlights reel of Ed o Brien pls?

  • Thom Yorke stole Johny Greenwood's "H"

  • @speakercoilmusic and he had to keep on begging Colin until they finally let him in

  • smear

  • HE REALLY, REALLY, REALLY NEEDS TO START PICKING UP THAT GUITAR AND SHRED LIKE CRAZY WITH ED O BRIAN AND THOM YORKE. "MY IRON LUNG", BODYSNATCHERS", "TRANS ATLANTIC DRAWL". WE DONT GET TO SEE THAT IN THE ALBUMS AS OFTEN AS IT SHOULD.

  • @mahavishnuxc this is way better than that

  • can you by chance send me the audio?? thanks much!

  • Actually, it's not played on a guitar or on just the Ondes Martenot. There's a whole string section as well as some percussion and woodwind to boot. I know, because I watched him playing it live at the Ether festival a few years ago (and yes, it was stunning).

  • until 2:17 it sounds like music from "the shinning"

  • Can anyone say the name of the music piece on There Will Be Blood where Daniel and Henry are on the beach?

  • es tan lindo :D

  • The picture is misleading. He's not even playing the guitar. He's playing the Ondes Martenot. It's a really bizarre electronic instrument (one of the first - 1920s) similar to the theremin except it's played by adjusting a ring along a metal string instead of waving your hands around. He plays it in a bunch of radiohead songs too...like pyramid song, kid a, and more

  • @squiresuzuki isn't it a starcaster??? :)

  • Could you imagine if they hadn't let Johnny in the band... Keep in mind he was the last to join, and WAY younger than them all when he joined his big brothers band.

  • this is not a bowed guitar or an E-Bow, this song is written and played on the ondes martenot, an electronic synthesizer made in france in the 20's and 30's used in minimalist and experimental music.

  • Did he really use a guitar with an arch? O_o !

  • If there was a new Interview With The Vampire movie, Mr. Greenwood would fit the part perfectly for a music composition.

  • Amazing

  • god am i being inpatient or does youtube not like links in comments. well if you search "popcorn superhet receiver npr" you can listen to wnyc's broadcast of the song provided by npr.

  • google to find the radio broadcast of it, and use headphones.

  • ... anyway you two, has any one listened to jonny's popcorn superhet receiver?

  • Mr. Jonny Greenwood is currently the greatest guitarist in the milky way

  • yea "he is a god" but check Penerecki - trenody for the victims of hiroshima. Wonder?

  • its Penderecki!! and yes it sounds like it.

  • i'm hearing bernard hermann early twilight zone years....

  • all those having youtube comment battles are a bunch of fags

  • what album is this on?

    i love it!

  • he is a god

  • oooooh wow after 4:00 it gets insane

    Hail To Jonny!

  • I'm impressed how people react to my comments here. Most of them just give me a minus because I write something negative about their favourite musicians. Maybe you should think of what I actually wrote and then judge me? I don't question anybody's talent or skills. I appreciate them but I just don't make gods of them. Dear people, think.

  • art is the only thing that makes this world barrable, along with love maybe... and hell yeah he is a wonderfully lovable artist maybe one of a kind.... really know... are you envious ?? some are the men you find the courage to experiment... this might be futurism but is piece of art and you have stuck in a moment men...

  • and damn i cant even write... so ... now 2nd line who 3rd line and stucked ( as for u2 ) ;)

  • Hhahahaha... that's exactly what I was talking about. Musical ignorants taking about music. This is futurism? It was, but 35 years ago. Got it at last?

  • dont be stupid , this is not 35 years ago , but you are totally right at your thinking of not making gods the artists , i like very much some jonny greenwood's songs but suddenly when he is playng alive he is certainly really really bad, he likes to do noice without a logic sense that sounds horrible dispite if that i like very much radiohead in cd but not jonny greenwood solo

  • look for fuck sake.

greenwood is a genius of our times - what with the shitty over produced pop crap thats about now. He makes his own computer programmes, is one of the only famous ondes martenot players in the world and has been the bulk of creative influence for the best band of the last 15 years.

if you disagree dont watch the fuckin video

  • To 12345l6789: This comment was aimed at me? Well, generally I agree with you and I don't understand why you criticize me.Did I say anything about pop music or that Greenwood is a poor musician? My only point is that people credit him for something simply because they didnt know it before.I like the fact that he experiments, I really do. And, btw, did I write anything that wasn't true? People critize me cuz I write something factual about their idols but actually most of them have nothing to say.

  • yeh, sorry. i got a bit passionate and all worked up.

Let's just say that we're all winners, cus we all appreciate the man in the video. end of.

  • Definitly NOT innovative but very good! ...And because of Jonny a lot of fans will get into abstract music thats been around for decades.

  • Hes God to people who arent incredibly pretentious. Or arrogant.

  • It may not be original, but it sure is good. What you're saying is the equivalent of saying that Mozart doesn't deserve acclaim because he wrote in the style of Haydn who came before him. There's more to music than just the idiom and style....it's the substance that counts. Just because a lot of his fans don't know Ligeti, Xenakis, Penderecki etc. doesn't mean the music is any less good because of it. They wouldn't admire this if it lacked substance. I think YOU need a music lesson.

  • Did I say it wasn't good? I only think it's not as innovative and original as many people assume simply because they don't know some more. That's all. I get sick of hearing some kids saying how innovative something is when it isn't. And generally I agree with what you wrote;)

  • Calm the fuck down, kid. I love the guy and I consider him a great musician (better than most, in my mind). Anyone saying he's a 'God' isn't doing so literally; they just really adore what he's doing.

It's fanboyism, but it isn't done in seriousness and it has no bearing on the music itself. People like you and I can listen to it and still appreciate it for what it is - barring you're able to let go of your internet-superior attitude.

  • Contextually original though, 35 years ago maybe, but who uses the Ondes Martenot in commercial "rock" music

  • To seamonster777: Yes you're right, it's a pity so many musicians don't want to experiment. And on Ondes Martenot: get me one, I'll use it with pleasure, I promise;)

  • Do me a favour and pull your head out your ass for a second when you read this.

Music isn't about how complex things are. Calling people musically ignorant just makes you an idiot.

People go by what reaches out to them, what they like, i agree proclaiming musicians God's is over the top. It doesnt matter which genré or the complexity of it, whether its mainstream that gets shoved down your throat, or an underground artist.

  • Insulting me in the first sentence of your comment makes YOU an idiot. I talk about ideas and statements without insulting people. It's not hard, really.

I don't judge music by complexity or genre, because I know that a good piece of music is a good piece of music, no matter what genre or how complex it is.

I call people ignorants only when they show their ignorance. It's funny when they can't admit it to themselves.

  • Insults are very common, i suggest you get used to it. Christ i hate when people think they are always above everything..

  • i'm pretty sure, god is johhny greenwood, I don't know, because if I was a real human being, I would force my opinions on people and say god is god, on youtube especially, because it's a good way to hide.

  • arrgh this is not nice to listen to on you own in a dark room

  • which is this song?

  • konami may can take jonny's music for a silent hill music it's amaizing and scary.

it give us another point of veiw of terror sense

  • wow. just wow!!!

  • that's the sound track of the movie "There will Be Blood" , i think he was nomened fo the academy....

It`s for sale! and a peace of art!!! I recomend!

    I just love jonny's music!!!

  • Umm...God is actually God.

Jonny is a superbly gifted, innovative, extraordinary, intelligent, sweet, humble - and many, many other superlatives - angelic human.

    I appreciate the man.

Does anyone know where this piece comes from?

  • It's funny how I see sort of the same words in almost every video refered to Jonny.

But it's funny, however, how can you say all that?

He's, no doubt, a gifted guitarist, but how can you say that he's innovative? I've heard a lot of things he did in the past that were called innovative, I don't know how sweet and humble he is... That's not something you could tell unless you actually know him.

But yeah, he gives that impression... He's really interesting in some sort of way.

  • Felis dia jonny

  • Johnny Greenwood for Ghostbusters 3 soundtrack. Start a movement!

  • jonny greenwood is god.

  • God of what?

  • i think he cut =X

  • He cut what?

  • his sleeeeve

  • his shirt.....one arm is shorter than the other????????! he cut it?

  • they do indeed have stylists.

  • I'd wager that that would be so it doesn't get in the way of his playing.

  • This sounds like a different arrangement of his piece Popcorn Superhet Reciever (which won a Radio 3 Listener's Award), which is for strings and percussion I think. Sounds as if it's being played on synth and possibly guitar here...and yes part of the composition he used for the There Will Be Blood soundtrack.

  • Its played on odes marionette strings and percussion

  • irrelevant comment but there's something about his shirt..

  • it's missing a sleeve on one side

  • guy below is so anoying

  • jonny greenwood is great especially when he works together with thom yorke!! and thats not like an ear infection, they know what they do.

  • What? Their sound quality live is wonderful. Especially in comparison to many other bands. They are particular a/b their sound and do pretty much a concerts worth of sound checking. Its not radiohead...its your ears mate.

  • i know. I love their music. I love radiohead. Thom, Johnny, all of them. I love their lyrics and the tone of their songs. The musical complexity. It's my ears, they that can't tolerate the particular sound frequency well =[

After a while i get use to it though.

  • The first 2 minutes IS in There Will Be Blood, just not on the soundtrack CD

  • At least parts of this ARE in There Will Be Blood, just not on the soundtrack CD.

  • hey!!!

  • i wanted to upload "Popcorn Superhet Reciever" but the version i got is damn near 20 mins long, won't let me upload!!!! (too big)

  • The middle of this song reminds me of Olivier Messiaen's "Fête des belles eaux" for 6 Ondes Martenot. Go Jonny Go!

  • Superbe oeuvre contemporaine.. je le ne la connaissais pas, je vais essayer de me la procurer !

  • What's your favorite on the there will be blood OST? Mine's 'Prospectors Arrive'. I just love the nostalgia that score creates. He is the TRUE genius behind radiohead, and people forget that. Thom yorke is also brilliant. But Jonny writes most of the songs. Not that i want to diss Thom, but he's getting a little too much credit in comparison to Jon and even Phil.

  • genious very György Ligeti

  • yeah! i want it to!

it seems to be a jonny's cover from the olivier messiaen's music...

would you tell me what is this and how can i get it?

    thanks

    =)

  • aha aha,

where is this from? i.e. is this Jonny's? its not from bodysong, its not p superhet receiver? its very good quality, i want it all =)
