How about you fucking try the pedal before you make a video of it. And here's a thought, not every video has to go up on Youtube. It's just rampant egoism on your part and it's a waste of time for everyone else.
@melindagreenjeans you seem personally offended. i thought the demo wasnt bad, and i am grateful that he posts so many videos, especially of pedals that arent typically demoed or found at local music supply stores.
cool review btw :D But now I'm TOTALLY confused. EHX has like 8 different envelope filter pedals.... which is the best: The Q-tron(incl. Qtron+, micro q-tron) or the Dr. Q nano or the tube zipper????? HELP MEEEEEE!!! :D
First of all, I absolutely love this pedal. Easily my favorite filter pedal, and I've owned quite a few. First tip for finding sounds on this is to turn the attack and decay knobs down all the way and add them in small servings as you like. Tons of great filter tones out of these things.
I know you didn't get "that sound" out of it, but I actually still found this demo pretty useful. You got some other interesting sounds out of it in trying to find it, and for the near-200 dollar price tag I'd hope that this thing does something more than just the standard auto-wah. I've seen enough reviews that show off the standard stuff. Thanks bro.
I love gearmanndude's demos! Most of the time, they're dead-on perfect. I bought the Guyatone WRm5 filter because of his demo, and he was 100% right about it. I like the fact that he admits he doesn't get this pedal. I play funk on a vintage synth, and let me assure you - if you know how to set the Riddle, you can get envelope filter/autowah sounds easily, plus a whole lot more. This pedal is super versatile and CRAZY funky! The instructions really do help.
I have an EHX Tube Zipper & it took me about 30 minutes before I got "That Sound" out of it. It's an auto wah with 2 pre amp tubes for distortion. In theory it's a great pedal but distortion and envelope filters don't go hand in hand sadly. lol
Riddle me Q Balls Batman. I don't like it either gearmanndude. The name's fun to say though. "Ahma riddle Q balls on yo ass!" -could be a new phrase to use whenever you encounter someone of jackassic proportions
If "no pedal should need instructions", we'd get one million one-knob, one-dimensional pedals. There's plenty of simple effects out there, let people who like to tweak have some flexibility!
i have one of these, and yes, it is a bit hard to use at first...but once you 'get it', it is amazing...especially with an expression pedal....it basically becomes a wah pedal which can be controlled to give you the exact tone/sound you desire....and it is capable of extremes.....i use it for sub-bass!
At @ 2:10 I think your were on to something, Im wondering if an expesion pedal may not have help some. Still a good demo. Pedals sounds are all about experimentation. Lots of knobs(to many??) to expriment there with that one. EHX all seem to have more parameters to play with than other brands with 2 or 3 knobs.
@wwit63 Gearmanndude I still gave your demo a 5 star on this one just cuz I give them all 5 stars. Lots of work goes into these and all are a great learning experience for me.
This pedal needs the sensitivity knob in around the middle position - only way everything else will work properly. Too high or low, and its reading too much (or little) from the pickups, and won't "speak".
Any pedal that requires you to read instructions is just plain bad design!!! Out of the box, on to the board, plug in, rock out! Life is too short for anything else.
I remember last time with my TV remote, I had to read instructions to make it work with my DVD player. I HATED IT... and I had already threw the manual to the bin along with the package as I always do... Crap. Who reads instructions anyway ?
On one of your upcoming videos it'd be nice if you sang something. I miss those dulcet tones. It's been to long since I've heard them singing some new material.

Hey man , for non OD demos you could throw a Luther Drive in front to dirty things up a little.
Btw, no pedal should need instructions

Seems to be an envelope follower, sorta like the Doctor-Q, except the Doctor-Q has ONE knob and this thing has like twenty.
But seriously, this thing seems more tweakable than the Doctor-Q, but I'm like you, I don't like tons of knobs.
Sounds like there are some cool sounds in this box, but I can't be arsed to fool around with that many knobs.

How are you powering these pedals with the ModTone Powerplant? It's only 150mA per output, and this pedal requires 200mA - also, it's a 9.6 volt...?
soopernaught 2 years ago
Anyway, it's not really an auto-wah, it's more of an envelope filter
