I saw another rendition of her doing this song at RnB live on youtube and it was even better than this. I didn't think it couldn't get too much better but it does lol.

Maybe it was because Simon's command of judging to voters but I think it really has nothing to do with racism. It's about how best singer you are and how marketable contestant you are to the market. Simon is really judging truly wherein I was amazed in his prediction after Carrie's "Alone" performance that she can sold millions of albums after Idol.
I remember because against all odds she made it to top 3 her family was always there for her no matter how Simon disliked her to win but Carrie. Simon threw bad negative comments to her although her performances were above okay. I think Simon was right she just have an incredible range and nice personality but kinda pitchy whereas there were flawless black women singers Simon admired in the early seasons like Tamyra Grey in season 1 and Latoya London in season 2.....

The problem is that Vonzell is amazing doing these classic R&B/Soul jams...better than any other diva on Idol (maybe save Fantasia in some instances)....but like most Idol musicians, you get them in a studio, and produce something for them, it turns out mediocre. And it's not the Idols' fault. The golden age of songwriting is behind us...that's what's sad.

As for Vonzell, I felt she was more of a star than Carrie. They are obviously very different and hard to compare, but Vonzell has more personality as a performer.

These people on A.I. need to stop singing other people's song because those songs were recorded and made for that particular singer's vocal range and if all they are doing is trying to sound like that singer well no one needs 2 aretha franklins..that's all.
this still was one of the best performances of the whole season, and btw the contestants don't have a choice in the matter they have to sing those songs and it will never change because people like hearing songs they are familiar with on idol so they can compare because in some cases they do as good or better than the original (this is one of those cases)
What are you talking about? Very rarely are songs written to match a vocalists range. In fact, very rarely does the vocalist even WRITE their own music. And what are the contestants SUPPOSED to sing if not songs by other artists?! They haven't written any of their own material. Do you expect them to all get up there and sing traditional songs and Oscar Mayer jingles?
Wow, you have no idea what you are talking about. Aretha Franklin's songs weren't written just for her. If you have a problem with people covering other singer's songs then tell Aretha that, because lots of her songs were originally recorded by others, most notably Natural Woman was originally sung by the writer but Aretha covered it. And Vonzell is not trying to sound like Aretha, but she still sounds amazing.

vonzell is best at this song... Period. Now syesha was best of that season and one of best idols in history imo definitely but not better than vonz. She sits at a tier on her own. IMPECCABLE VOCALS

well yeah but i mean we didn't hear the whole thing on idol... we heard it on The One, but she was younger then, you can tell in the difference of clarity in her voice whewn she sang it on The One vs. American Idol, and on Idol it was stronger, so yes, she is near vonzell

Yea ur right she did actually get better for idol. but even if you compare syesha singing it to vonzell's audition when she sang chain of fools, the way she orchestrated her vocals was better. And she didnt even have to do a strong finish like she did the other times. So i think even then she wouldnt have been near her.

Not really. People like syesha, fantasia, jhud, elliot, tamyra, david archuletta, paris bennet, etc. are in my top fav too. i jus think no one on idol comes close to vonzell... i understand many people would disagree with that statement but hey thats my opinion. Like i previously stated i think she sits at a tier of her own. Thats not dissing syesha, its like saying that you're a huge fan of Beyonce but believing that her vocals dont come close to

Idk about Kat... but she was real good. i know for sure she's in my top fav. for best auditions cause that was REAL good. but as the season progressed she impressed me a little but not enough to be in my top fav. She has good control, but she cant tackle any and every genre and kill it like all my other favs IMO. I like her though, jus not my fav. she's like in the group of people that i jus thought had good voice and stage presence. Not the best to me.

Rameile's voice is a amazing too, they did not gave her enough publicity and the choice of songs did not really show her talent that much. One thing though, Rameile has a beautiful Asian face. I hope she will go back home (Philippines) and make it big there just like Jasmine Trias.

The factor on AI isn't your skin color... it's your popularity and if you watched the show you would know that! Vonzell did not start garnering major fans until the top 12 while carrie started getting major reviews back in the top 24... that's why at the top 3 she beat out vonzell.. not because of her color.GROW UP

Cut the BS, in season 3 where people really used the racism card because Latoya was voted off, who were the top 3? An asian, a black, and a white girl. Who won? Fantasia. What kind of Racism is that? There's so many successful black singers, stop playing the victim card. It seems to me that many people believe that if a person is black, they are entitled to win. Vonzell deserved to be in the top 3, not because she was black, but because she could sing.

These people on A.I. need to stop singing other people's song because those songs were recorded and made for that particular singer's vocal range and if all they are doing is trying to sound like that singer well no one needs 2 aretha franklins..that's all.

this still was one of the best performances of the whole season, and btw the contestants don't have a choice in the matter they have to sing those songs and it will never change because people like hearing songs they are familiar with on idol so they can compare because in some cases they do as good or better than the original (this is one of those cases)

What are you talking about? Very rarely are songs written to match a vocalists range. In fact, very rarely does the vocalist even WRITE their own music. And what are the contestants SUPPOSED to sing if not songs by other artists?! They haven't written any of their own material. Do you expect them to all get up there and sing traditional songs and Oscar Mayer jingles?

Wow, you have no idea what you are talking about. Aretha Franklin's songs weren't written just for her. If you have a problem with people covering other singer's songs then tell Aretha that, because lots of her songs were originally recorded by others, most notably Natural Woman was originally sung by the writer but Aretha covered it. And Vonzell is not trying to sound like Aretha, but she still sounds amazing.

She does sound nice but she doesn't sing the song better than Aretha Franklin because she completely reiterated every thing about the way Aretha sang the song. For her to have "done a better version" she should've reinvited the sound of the song and made it her own. But on the scale of comparison Aretha's is better because it is the creation.
