  • I really like how compact you setup is. Is that retrofitted wardrobe you have everything in?

  • Weird spot for the monitors but good playing dude !

  • Ahrrrrr!!! I was expecting for some advice... Well, I'm glad for this guy!

  • Nice studio! That Ibanez sounds great! Continued success! i'm just now throwing together a home studio. Oh, I dig the ship!

  • i been lookin at stuff to get a homestudio.... an i been trying to figure out what is better to go wit... a firebox or a mixer..... any help is good

  • I thought firewire was geared towards Mac users. not sure though.

  • bad monitor speaker placement. good music tho. :D

  • i like your set nice vid 5 stars =]

  • i have that same guitar pick lolss

  • cool ya

  • The are KRK Rockit-5's. The current version looks a little different, but they cost about $150.00 each. I really like them.

  • A ship behind your monitor speakers???You have a lot of objects in your room that may resonance when you play or record. But i like the way you have notes around you studio.

  • MAC 4 LIFE!

  • lol married with children... love that show. watched a documentry on it 1 week ago. That some great soling. Your a genious putting those chord lists and scales and effects set ups on ur desktop man im gunna do that right. thanks for opening my mind lol. And how do u record without a computer? u use a mulit track recorder? and mixer? would u get the same quality without a computer? and could u add the same effects? our would u have to use ur own pedals and prccessors?

  • and what amplifier and mixer do you use

  • Hi, sambastars...

I use KRK Rocket 5 powered speakers (~$100 bucks each) and a Yamaha 16/4 mixer (about $350 IIRC). Thanks for stopping by.

  • Hi!

I wonder why are those speakers on every home studio recording video that youtube can show??

    thanks

  • Hi ferlotte... three reasons... first, they sound really good, second they're small and made to be in a studio environment and third, they're pretty cheap as these things go.

  • what speakers do you use

and what do you connect it to(amplifier or mixer)

  • decent guitar player but you know nothing of having a home studio

  • Get a Pc

  • Why? So I can fight with latency? :)

And I do mix in my PC...

  • Get a Mac! I mean, if you are going to do it digital... do it right! I don't have a Mac... I hace a PC and I have nothing but problems and freeze ups because there is TOO much going on for it's poor little brain to handle. But my next Music workstation will be a MAC!

  • yup, mac own the music mixing, recording and all.. BUT i PREFER and will always do, PCs for gaming!!

  • Comment removed

  • Ok... so the Macs over priced and to avoid paying too much for a Mac I should buy more memory, smh and a bigger hard drive for my PC to get it to operate smoothly. THAT'S LIKE TRYING TO SOUP UP A PINTO TO RUN NASCAR RACES!

  • Comment removed

  • have to agree with YeshuaRising, I have a mac system using Logic and an Apogee duet firewire A/D converter, it's rock solid with no latency, can't beat it

  • Comment removed

  • PCs companies should make MAC like computers... prices would be cheapers and quality superior!!! haha

  • An Hero, you should look into it..

  • Great vid ! Could u check out mine, nd tell me what u think ;) thanks

  • I'm diggin the studio, and really liked that solo. =)

  • What Speakers are they

  • KRK Rocket 5's, the lowest priced version of the Rocket Series. They're perfect for what I do and really good as near-field monitors.

  • Your guitar playing sounds good..Should've brought it up some...I would have liked to hear it louder..when you start to play the song on the video, fade it into a recording it would sound sweet.

  • i'm just leaving this comment hoping that you tape it up :)

  • i have an analog mixer cAUSE i got it for a great price FREE! :)

  • What kind of Ibanez is that?

    Amazing solo BTW

  • Thanks for the comment. It's an RG1570. Not the most expensive Ibanez, but certainly hot enough for my style of playing.

  • Great Studio! Interesting View! When I get my new computer on my 47th birthday(August 2nd)I'll be making videos of me singing some music off my Motown Original Karaoke Tracks! Have you ever heard of a Samson G-Track USB microphone?

  • Beautiful playing man!

    Inspirational:)

  • I got a analog mixer for the same reason and when I told the dude at sam ash what it was for, he looked at me like I was from another planet or something. I dont see how these dudes can be good with unpluggin one thing and pluggin something else in over and over and over. it was annoying as hell.

  • Nice Job Man!!..Analog vs digital..Who Cares...Ive both and can go either way.

And as for Mr Negativity - a Poser is a guy who Knows it ALL and must tell everyone that he Knows it all and how If you are not doing it his way its No Good.....geez,27 years old & already a know it all..Mike, dont sweat a wannabe who's Done Nothing & Contributed NOTHING.........Do Your Thing Mike & Thanks for taking the time!!

  • What song is that youre playing?

  • The song is called What Went Wrong and it was written by a friend named Ian Mackay. He asked me to write a solo for it and this is what I came up with.

Thanks for asking. I'm going to try to find a link to the actual recording.

  • ian mackay?? the minor threat dude?? hahaha

  • Go to Soundclick and look up Ian Mackay. The song is called "What Went Wrong".

  • YouTube isn't letting me post links or even website addresses.

  • Very nice, simple setup. Also, great song. It's oddly relaxing.

  • i dnt kno why Mc was heckling you, lol

but i thought the playing was dope. who cares what u use to record, as long as the finished product is dope

  • very al di meola inspired (sorry for spelling)

  • Hey man, thanks for sharing.

  • dude, applegate gets 9 seconds of air time and the wife gets >2 secs? ah well.

  • lol.. i thought the same thing..

  • Funny huh? She said the same thing! LOL

  • the shipyard. lol

  • the shipyard. lol

  • hey ive been playin the guitar since i could walk but i was wondering how do u get the background sound for when u were playin lead...i cant find anyting that just has music to it without words... please help me out man and tell me

  • Hi Kitkat,

In this case, the backgraound was done by another musician who asked me to write a solo for his tune. But I usually record all the instruments myself.

You need a multitrack recorder (like the Zoom MRS-802 that I use). I play bass, keys, guitar and use a PC Program called Acoustica Beatcraft for drums. The Zoom can be had on E-Bay for less than $100.00.

Hope this helped. Feel free to ask for more detail.

    Mike

  • ablton live man, check it.

  • is this guy honestly trying to tell anyone how to record without a fucking computer? spend some money, get a console (project mix, is great), protools (or a decent daw) and quit wasting our time with this

  • that's your opinion, some people like hardware and hate computers. To each his own.

  • I do use a computer.... but only for mixing. When I'm recording, though, I like the having the equipment in front of me.

"And quit wasting your time?" WTF? I don't remember coming to your house and forcing you to click my link, dude.

  • And, besides, I'm not "telling you" how to record, I was showing my friends how I record.

  • ya ya the analog vs digital debate..i'm just simply trying to say that your set up sucks..."im not telling you" ..just that in my opinion you've won the biggest poser of the month award..(golf clap)

  • No problem, McP... drive by insults... find something else to do with your time.

  • and no computer...?

  • NIce Man enjoy your world

  • nice boat.

  • Great sound, man. Love that Ibanez axe. :)

  • where did you get all that stuff on your wardrobe

  • Which stuff do you mean?

  • i think he means the speakers?

  • I PM'd him and got him copies of the scales and stuff I have posted on the inside doors of the piece of furniture.

  • crap you have a studio! plug your stuff intoyour computer dude lol

  • Maybe he doesn't like using a computer to make music.

  • maybe but the sound will be better than from a web cam mic or things like that

  • Even if you use a better sound source on your videos, when you upload them here, the sound will be distorted.

  • I think, next time, I'm going to go out of the mixer into the mic input on the camcorder.

And, room 6, I do my mixing now on my PC. I still record the the Zoom, though. I just like feeling like I'm in a astudio, not in an office when I play.

  • I understand. I feel the same way. :)

  • the effects on the guitar were crap... sorry dude... burn it

  • harrymonk68

The effects are coming from a Boss GT6, which is one of a number of premier effects processors. His equalization is poor. It's stupid of you to say, "Burn It," when all it takes is some basic knowledge of EQ, Compression ratios, etc...

  • I too have a purple Ibanez RG470 going through a Boss GT6. Interesting that we have the exact same guitar rig. However, I have the Yamaha 8 channel mixer.

  • Camera microphone unfortunately doesn't do enough justice to the music. but still, it's a very nice, comfortable studio =]

  • KRK make amazing pro monitors (albeit very expensive) but apparently the rokits have a tendancy to colour the sound a little much. How've you found them?

  • i think they are crap thats my personal opinion ...i only heard em played ridiculously loud but wen there were playin they had little high top end ....where as Genelec had a really really crisp top end, but mayb to crisp but it was pretty fresh! prefered the gens to the krks

  • thanks for the video!

  • really cool im gonna make a studio soon

    btw awesome song!

  • Damn good stuff man. Hey, your face looks real familiar, I think I might have met you at a McDonalds many years ago. Did you used to live up on Williamsbridge, wife named Nancy? I used to live up on Morris Park, but my girl lived on Rhinelander. I had a Fender T-shirt on and we got to talking about Telecasters. Think it might have been you. Peace bro!

  • lol u like pause on christina for like 5 seconds and your wife for not even a 10th of a second lol haha love your set up awsome vid!

  • Nice solo... reminds me of older Steve Rothery stuff from Marillion.

  • Sounds great! Nice playing, and cool setup.

  • Yes I am recording directly into my pc with Sony Acid Pro and Sony Music Studio 7.0

  • what do you actually record into?

  • Hey Lewis. I record into the Zoom MRS-802B that you see at 2:15. It's a digital workstation that records up to 8 stereo tracks.

  • One of the best home setups i've ever seen mine cost me about $180.00(everything included) but it isnt as advanced as yours

  • $180 ? Are you recording direct to your PC?

  • nice lead and I like your setup make some cds and stuff rock on.

  • Thanks, Gera.

  • Hey man, do you have a myspace or somewhere where I can hear your music? Thanks!

  • Great man!

    Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks!

  • how much did that cost you?

  • About $1500.00

  • how much ghz and ram does your computer have?

  • Hey Drew... I use a Dual Core Athalon 4400 Mhz with 2 gig RAM.

  • that melody is like a mexican group song call kumbala, the band name is la maldita vecindad y los hijos del 5 patio, if you can listen to it

  • Dude your studio looks cool, but that music is total 80s wank. Turn on the radio and you wont find a a big reverbed guitar lead. Get dirty and raw. Get out of your comfort zone. Fuck! I sound like Dr Phil................ dave

  • Man, im surpised your not using a pc!

  • Hey Rondouk... I use my PC for mixing and mastering, but I still enjoy having a full-fledged board and workstation to do the recording. It makes me feel important! LOL

  • check out these hot beats made from scratch at myspace(dot)com/elsewherebeats

  • Really nice setup mate. I have a GT-6 too.

  • Cool video! That Cristina Applegate bit had me laughing. Good idea to always surround a player with the scales and formulas for better recording progress.

  • Cool set up bro

  • Looks like your having fun man. Keep up the good work!

  • I was crazy about Christina Applegate during the Married With Children days too. She was smoking HOT then! Nice studio too, btw.

  • Awesome studio, great solo, and you just gotta tell me what you use to get that sweet sound!

  • Nice Solo...and it's cool how everything looks like it can be tucked away...

    ~TECH-nyq-KAL from Naked Concepts Studio

  • This is pretty cool. I luv music and stuff but I dont know the essential for a studio and I dont know what to do about wires and stuff. If i knew what to do I'd be layin down tracks right now. Great vid.

  • go to ur local electrical shop and u will probably be able to buy plastic tracking

  • Very cool! Thanks for sharing it with us! Keep it up

  • It's fascinating looking at other people's home studio set-ups. Mine's keyboard-based - the whole guitar world is alien to me! Amazing. Do you do much vocal recording at home? Trying to tackle that one myself, not having a booth...

Just started music/sound for an animation proj that will be up on here soon. Our previous work 'Television in the UK' and 'Cellblock 9' is already up here.

  • nice set up...

  • excellent soloing!

  • Tak about a studio in a box! kewl Mike!
