  • oo this is my dream )))) this is real life )))))

  • Man those steam engines are strong for there size.

  • Looks great. Jesse James would have a field day.

  • Beautiful engines! They're almost as big as the ones at Sonoma Train Town Railroad! 1:36 (gasp) They have dining cars too?! This is just like at those large railroads!

  • that's cool!!!!!!!!!

  • That was awesome! Well done!

  • This is awesome.

  • talk about alot of steamers!

  • Totally magnificent video, absolute top class. What a stunning set up of some of the most gorgeous scale sized working steam locomotives. Would love to see all that for real some day. Hat off to you chaps and well done........keep on railroading and keep them videos coming......they're GGGGGreat !!!!!!!!!! '' PIPES ''

  • Wonders of engineering!!!

  • 3:00 That shay is epic.

  • Yes! The ultimate "old guy with way too much land and disposable income" hobby! Love it!

  • Wundervoll, unglaublich!!!

    Wonderful, incredible!

  • Wundervoll, unglaublich!!!

  • at 0:30 THOMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Usually, I'm not a fan of 'ride on' railways but this video is eye opening. Brilliant fun.

  • WOW very nice

  • There are places that sell ready to run, machined kit, unmachined kit(castings), and finally just the plans. railserve is a great web site for links to great live steam sites.

  • nice looking lima shays.

  • Absolutly outstanding. Pete

  • CaptainHarlock999,

    Thanks for the info..., 4 5/16' to 4 7/16"...,

right between there is 4 3/8", the IBLS standard for 1.5" scale.

    Is this a compromise...,

or did the coupler heights on the standard and narrow gauge stock just 'work out' that way, I wonder. Thanks.

One last question, please? DO you use 1.5" scale couplers, or the 2.5" ones? Do the 2.5" couplers represent full size couplers, or narrow gauge versions is my question. The Rio grand used full size couplers, didn't they?

  • Please, I'm trying to find coupler height standards for 2.5" scale/7.5" gauge. I know many use IBLS wheel standards, but what about the couplers? Rail height to coupler centre would be very useful. Are there 'Standards' posted somewhere?

    Thank you,

    Zoë

  • middle of the coupler pocket is 4 5/16" to top-of-rail while the car (or locomotive) is loaded.Typically, loaded cars from unloaded cars move 1/8" if they are sprung properly. Which means for cars carrying passengers or ballast, make the coupler centerline 4 7/16". Don't have any other info myself.

  • An absolutely Magnificent video! Very well shot and editied and an EXCELENT audio/sound track! (aka good choice of music!) ;p

  • looks fun!

  • Just brilliant!!!!

  • looks like alot of fun!

  • Wonderful video, I really want to get inot this hobby when finances allow it!!

  • Which is the name of the music that plays at the beginning? (I remember hearing it in a Malboro TV ad, sooo many years ago)

  • If i were rich this is a hobby I'd enjoy. It is fascinating to watch these run. I guess i have to settle for my Lionel trains during rhe holiday season. Even they are now very expensive too however!

  • You actually can be penniless and enjoy this hobby if there is a club nearby. If you join and get involved with the club, come out and do some trackwork and generally make yourself useful, it won't be long before someone is showing you the ropes a club steam engine. :)

  • If you are poor just buy the HO scale and a big magnifying glass...

  • AWESOME!!! i just love it

  • well loook at dls. ur gonna need at least 10 grande

  • Which if you mean $10,000 to obtain one of these trains I would say thats a better deal than $5,000 for a small 1/4 scale V8 that runs off gasoline. Atleast these trains do something the other just sits on your desk. But this is one thing I would like to get into. Currently though I will just have to be content with the models I put together of trains.

  • ya but still quit pricey for the average income and im 12 so ya haha. ppl always ask me though " that picture of you in the train, where can I buy one? I think I wanna do this!" But than I say " well give 50k and i'll get you an RMI forney just like this one" No response haha

  • lol I know what you mean. But personally I think this would be a better investment than $5,000 for a 1/4 scale V8 engine that runs like the real thing. That is just a desktop paperweight basically. These things if you build them to run off steam are works of art. But then again I always liked steam engines they have a specific sound about them and they are powerful.

But I do know what you mean though $10,000 is alot if you dont have it.

  • ya and i run steam every time at my club! try to stay away from diesels and sometmes they are mager pain in the ass but they are soo much more fun and pleasurable to operate than a lawn mower on rails haha.

  • for me only thing a lawn mower engine belongs on is a mower and a gokart. Besides that if a train is a replica of a steam train it should be steam. I just think I would run coal fire on mine when or if I ever get one. LPG and propane and all that is good but coal just provides a hotter fire.

  • extremely agree! propane is great but its to easy to run! Oil is a pain cuz u got a million valves like fuel vavles, anaemizors, and ur blower and ur stack is constantly getting dirty and u have to adjust everything to clen it up while coal is a nice balance between hard and easy! and ur getting a workout! haha

  • not to mention coal gives off the right amount of smoke, you can even use plain old bbq charcoal if you had to. Not to mention coal burns cleaner than oil. I dont know how many times ive seen oil burning resulting in gummy deposits.

  • ya and u cant suck the fire out either wch is a major problem with oil fire engines especially when ur on a grade and relly working the locomotive

  • Where do you buy the track for something like this?

  • thers a couple companies. check out he discover live steam dls website

  • I love the narrow gauge shown here, it is just amazing, i hope that when i have the money, i can buy cars and locomotives that look that good

  • I love the Shays!

  • I've must of seen this vidio so mush i have lost count but it never gets old!!! :)

  • i love the locomotive at 0:28

  • Whats this song called on this video?

    thanks

  • national geogaphics

  • The Magnificent Seven

  • Magnificent Seven!

  • Excellent Clip, Great Live Steam footage !.

  • I love this video so much and at 1:40 i would love one of those and i can get anything mad AWSOME!

  • The locomotive at 1:40 is an Allen Models Chloe. You can buy the Castings and plans from Gene Allen, or there is one currently for sale ready to run on the Discover Live Steam website's forsale pages.

  • Hi captainharlock999 how much is the locomotive for sale and how much will you do it for for shipping and what comes with it any driving trucks and how many people can it take is it in english money

    best regards jay

  • Is it still for sale

  • Hi the locos r amazing where abouts is this cheers jay

  • Those things are awesome!

  • Amazing! How much better could it get narrow gauge live steamers!

  • This is amazing! Magnificent locos. The Magnificent Seven music is just the correct tone for this film! I'm pretty amazed by this. Nice work.

Best Regards Ryan aka GreatWestern175 from the UK.

  • This video was incredible! I can not wait till my shay is finished!

  • They had some very impressive steamers there. BBQ doesn't look bad, either.

  • That was an ausome video. I really need to get back to work on my Shay.

  • Mate, you timed the scenes to the music track really well. One of my fave songs..

The rollingstock looks great as well. I gotta get over there and see for myself

  • Some how the song fits highballing steam locomotives, dosent it?

  • that looks like so much fun lol i want 1

  • wow these engines are amazing...especially the k-36! do people makes these from scratch? just wonderin...how much would something like that set you back? great video!

  • Most build from scratch. Buying one is a hefty proposition - for most of those larger engines, they would run you $20,000 to $100,000. And that still does not take into account all the skilled machining hours that went into them. Time or money...take your pick :)

  • That 41 locomotive I saw in real life laast weekend at the Sacramento Valley Live Steamers.

  • Are they 7 1/2" gauge????????

  • Yes, 7 1/2" gauge.

  • good

  • it's good to see steam engines still live on with some people unlike those greenpeace hippies

  • thats cool, I run 41 in real life. I would like to see more videos. also I was wondering has anyone ever made a c25 in 2 1/2?

  • I had to fevorite that. WOW Petro

  • It's great, I am from Chile, in spanish... se pasaron es impresionante, felicitaciones (congratulations)

  • a mi me encantaria recorrer, por lo menos, unos 100 metros con alguna de ellas. Esos tipos tienen muchísima suerte. Yo ya conduzco un pequelo tren a baterias imitando ser una diesel, pero no hay nada como eso... =D

  • very bitchin

  • Wonderful layout!! Very pleased to see they had real freight trains! The last engine is my favorite

  • I'm speechless...all I can do is to admire...and cheer you guys up!! 10/10!!!

  • You know Peter Nott's berk fell off the bay there...

    Oskar

  • Super Video. Roger

  • Great video ! I just wish i could attend a meet like this

    Thanks

    Andrew

  • Fantastic Video, very professional. What scale are these locos?

    Regards Ray

  • Hi Ray,

They are mostly 2 1/2" scale in this case. 2 1/2" for every one foot on the full size item. 7.5" gauge track.

  • Good lord, Pardner. Your music distracts from your video. I'd rather hear the "Chuff-chuff" of locomotives without any cliche western music. As for me, I'm gonna saddle up and head off into the sunset...

  • That is a very good video!

    that is the one&only =)

  • whats the name of this piece of music?

    great film and editing!

  • Hiya, thanks.

It's the theme to The Magnificent Seven. Classic Western.

    Cheers,

    --M
