  • started up Class 20 )))

  • Fuck me!! Still, more efficient than a bus.

  • take that greenpeace

  • At last theve fitted a class 20 with a steam engine!!

  • @maddogmcrae not as ugly as the north american diesels

  • @maddogmcrae American locos are an engine with some tin foil over it!! At least we try to make ours presentable!

  • @maddogmcrae Personally I think the Class 20s are lovely looking locos but the yellow end with the black stripe across the windows is pretty ugly. (The railfreight with red stripe livery looks great from other angles though).

  • I love the Class 20 loco, this example is in fine condition cosmetically, though I dont know about the mechanical state,it's probably got a million hours on it!!!

  • @silver760 1 million hours = approx. 114 years. ;-)

  • clagtastic MY LORDZ

  • Excellent video!

  • How many cylinders have to come in before the engine keeps turning by itself without the starter.

It looked like a filthy old thing, but are the majority of those emissions were un-burnt fuel?

I hope that when the engine is running on all pots and is at correct operating temperature, there is far less visible emissions.

  • Almost....almost...aaaaalmost......there we are!! :)

  • there one minute gone the next

  • typical British junk diesel, maybe get a German engine next time!!

  • struth I can smell it from 'ere

  • @mensamoo So can I brilliant smell isn't it.

  • mad ducheee whooooooooooooooooo

  • If there's one thing I love it's the sights and sounds of a gallant old diesel engine in action. Napier Deltic, English Electrics, Paxman, Sulzer, the engines which gave the BR modern traction locos their character. The monotonous character of modern engines like MTUs is just too dull for a diesel enthusiast.

  • German locos are cleaner than british locos^^

  • Mmmmm Diesel fumes,i can smell them from here!!! Cracking video 10 out of 10!!

  • it will never rust

  • Wow. I may not exactly be an expert on British diesel locomotives, but if I didn't know any better, I'd swear that something was dreadfully wrong with that engine.

On a related note, I could easily see all that smoke causing serious problems for trains passing on the adjacent line. *Looks at link to the Extended Railway Series* Hmm... Actually, that gives me an idea... XD

  • and they say diesels are cleaner than stream engines

  • This is one loco renownd for clag. I saw her start up at least twice before and every time she clags!

  • Nice, but I think the cameraman passed out lol

  • @1madaboutguitar the smoke wasn't enough to make me pass out :P

  • @GreatWestern175 Ha Ha I expect your a clag junkie then.

Mind you, strange and illogical as it is, diesel smells good ;-)

  • @1madaboutguitar - LoL :-] I laughed when I read your comment. My wife says that diesel is my Channel 99. If I see an old diesel engine of any kind my head is either under the bonnet or in the door of the engine room, "THEN" those famous words ring out, I'm sure they are familiar to all of us -- WILL YOU COME ON - OR - WE WILL BE HERE ALL DAY - sound familiar to any!

  • @goinghomesomeday1 . Yer trains were such an exciting thing for me growing up. I still love them now but they are getting more and more boring as time goes on. The MTU's were the nail in the coffin lol

  • @1madaboutguitar It's the same with the buses. New ones are so boring and souless I loose interest. Give me a smokey mk1 National any day with that clattery 510.

  • At first I thought it was trying to perform a waltz...

  • Something tells me that some of British Leyland's fantastic engineers have been into designing this fantastic masterpiece of an engine

  • Take care train driver! Might be cause explosion!!!

  • 1:13 "SHES GANNA BLOW!!"

    "WAIT! never mind!"

    lolz

  • Sounds like a twin cylinder Lister on a bad day!!

  • That's so cool! It's actually blowing smoke rings!

  • Its a fogger but don't breath in the smoke

  • why dint they just bump start it??

  • Thats what I like about the Brittish Locomotives. The show they put on when starting up and when going their sound.

  • EPIC FAIL

  • There goes our ozone...

  • @Ikaruszaki Exactly! Jeremy Clarkson would be proud! ;)

  • WHATTT THHEEE FUUUCCKKKK !! :P

  • needs new rings,,, or blown turbo... burn that oil LOL

  • @derekimo Nothing wronwg with the loco whatsoever. Checked it yesterday and all is fine. EEs don't like the cold. You should see a 50 cold start!

  • Awesome these old engines it's a pity everyone cares about emissions so much... would much rather see these tearing round the country side than the more modern electric horrors.

  • Smokin!! lol

  • ALCOholic engine?

  • Now we know why that guy was wearing a high visibility jacket....!!

  • very smokey but check out the vid of 56097 with black smoke but this beats all 20s starting up good vid 5 * was it the gala that wekend?

  • Yes it was at the beginning of the gala

  • They done a good job on the diesel allnice and clean & shiny I think she needs some nicorette as she has a bad smoking habit 5*

  • Haha yes she certainly does! I've seen many Class 20s in my time but this is smokiest I've seen yet.

  • Where's the train I can't see it!

  • Excellent Ry, and already started to take off in it's own right..well done...5* Bob

  • looks in good shape, are trains are not so pretty looking.

  • its a great video, there trains look diffrent from the trains in the usa,

  • Ahh yes some of diesels here many old ones are all in different shapes and lengths, this one is a late 1950's design.

  • 5/5 were did you go hehe, great video

  • Oh I went to Buckfastleigh, northern terminus of the South Devon Railway.
