  • Cont.: ...somewhat dampened! I can imagine there is a safety factor involved when glass explodes at 4,200 mph, and I shouldn't want it in my eye at that speed!

  • In the movie (based on the book) Oscar & Lucinda, they show Her receiving one as a Birthday gift, & although she likes it just fine the way it is, they demonstrate - quite forcibly - with a hammer & an ax it's unusual strength. When Lucinda takes a pliers to the tail, however, it explodes into a fine mist of billions of pieces; Wikipedia claims it's been tested at 4,299 mph! Their video, however, does not do it justice as its crimped just under the water & it's effects are, shall we say, somewh

  • Awww .... but you couldn't see it! I read about it in Peter Carey's book Oscar and Lucinda. They didn't bother with the bucket of water.

  • If you listen closely, the voice sounds kind of like Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory.

  • ПРИВЕТ ДЁРТИ!

  • Sounds like Sheldon

  • Cmon man with hammer! You can bang harder than that!

  • Wizardry!

  • Press 3 and then 2 fast for herpes

  • SCIENCE!

  • Press 1 for the menstruation of great glass

  • 0:47 Looks like a huge sperm cell

  • This reminded me of the sperm.

  • Now we know how to kill it.

  • That's nothing compared to Prince Rupert's Cube.

  • SCIENCE!

  • 12 people hate physics.

  • that is awesome

  • Is Sheldon narrating?

  • Anyone knows how to melt glass with household items :) Wanna try this in physics lesson next time :)

  • @FixedHDD get some glass (jar or whatever), put it in a furnace (pot?) and throw in an Iron Oxide (rust) and aluminium powder combination and ignite. Don't know if this works but try it out. (FYI rust + Al powder = thermite)

  • @MrJonagikster i wouldn't use thermite as a heat source if my furnace is just a pot, it'd melt right through it in seconds and seriously fuck up whatever is under it

  • @Enaryth only if you use a lot at once. If you gradually add it the temperature is entirely controllable. The reason I recommend it is 1) it is easy to obtain, 2) it has a relatively high effective energy density, and 3) it is easy to control both the fuel and the temperature.

  • this is fucking dangerous.

  • that pussy doesn't know how to work a hammar

  • @toe2thaknee Yup. I mean, banging on it full force doesn't bear the risk of snapping the 'tail' off in his hand or anything. Amirite?

  • wow. thats actually really really amazing. I learned something new today. now to make up for the years I've spent learning nothing at all...

  • this make you wonder if Prince Rupert's balls exploded when he got a vasectomy!

  • hm i'd like to see a much better shot of it blowing up into billions of tiny pieces.

  • Danger: Chance of glass sperm explosion!

  • Randomly interestin :D

  • There is a high speed video of a Rupert's Drop exploding you can view. I tried to post the link here, but YT won't let me. Go to the Popular Science Magazine website and you can search for it there.

  • Fascinating! Who knew?

  • just watched this twice. mind. blown.

  • I wonder what the prince albert drop looks like

  • wait what

  • cool....

  • thats quite amazing

  • I'd love to see a Prince Rupert's drop being broken at 20,000 frames per second.

  • @denelson83

    And in slow motion

  • @IAmANub Exactly.

  • @denelson83 you sir, have been trolled.

  • @IAmANub Thats what 20000 frames per second is....

  • @MitchDesousa

    not to be THAT guy.

but technically 20,000 frames per second would just have a really high frame rate. It would still be a matter of seconds, but there would be 20,000 frames in each.

in slow motion, those 20,000 frames could be stretched over time.

so yeah, i think it's just a stupid technicality thing.

  • @GreyNoises Heh heh heh you got me there =P

  • @denelson83 best i could find /watch?v=Pdy2_vi0FfM&feature=related

  • @denelson83 lol, that's exactly what I thought!

  • @denelson83 watch?v=Pdy2_vi0FfM&feature=related Here you go

  • would this cause shrapnal damage?

  • @AngryLlamaz Yes. Simply because of the velocity of the glass. However, once broken it's about as dangerous as sugar in your hand.

  • @SuicidalPapercuts Somehow i ended up on this page,''and this kinda trips me out?..Now,is this the same type of glass used for making household glasses for drinking out of..''Or a coca cola bottles? I like the effect on this," better than setting an old thick 7up bottle on the train tracks and then watch the train turn it into green colored sugar..

  • @dannyhood66 This is the exact same type of glass, yes. However, the drop explodes into such small pieces that it's essentially harmless unless you get it somewhere sensitive, like your eyes.

  • @SuicidalPapercuts Amazing..That makes sense,''I'll wear some safety goggles..
