In the movie (based on the book) Oscar & Lucinda, they show Her receiving one as a Birthday gift, & although she likes it just fine the way it is, they demonstrate - quite forcibly - with a hammer & an ax it's unusual strength. @FixedHDD get some glass (jar or whatever), put it in a furnace (pot?) and throw in an Iron Oxide (rust) and aluminium powder combination and ignite. Don't know if this works but try it out. (FYI rust + Al powder = thermite)

@MrJonagikster i wouldn't use thermite as a heat source if my furnace is just a pot, it'd melt right through it in seconds and seriously fuck up whatever is under it

@Enaryth only if you use a lot at once. If you gradually add it the temperature is entirely controllable. The reason I recommend it is 1) it is easy to obtain, 2) it has a relatively high effective energy density, and 3) it is easy to control both the fuel and the temperature.

@dannyhood66 This is the exact same type of glass, yes. However, the drop explodes into such small pieces that it's essentially harmless unless you get it somewhere sensitive, like your eyes.
