I don't see this concept working outside of a research lab. Gamers are competitive. A system that requires opposing players to compete over real physical space will cause in-game conflict to escalate to real-world conflict. Players must move with their fleet to control it, so once one side begins to advance on the other, the battle transcends the boundaries of the game and becomes a physical battle for space in front of the touch screen. "He can't beat me if he can't reach his ships!"

@Harabeck I get the feeling that you don't understand what multitouch is. You can't replicate multitouch with a mouse unless you somehow have multiple mouse cursors and are able to control each separately.

Be confused by the presentation decisions all you want, I'm merely stating that it is not possible to make this same exact game using a mouse on a normal computer monitor.
