Because the real wars today are shit, the iraq war is a joke, vietnam was a war... and since we cant go back in time 'yet' this is only thing that we can get to a proper war
Well if ur gonna compare war like that it'll go backwards forever. Vietnam was nothing compared to WW2, which was nothing to WW1, and so on with civil war, and when armies masses tens of thousands of troops armed with swords and bows.
ww2 was actualy the largest combat operation for any millitary in history.... not only that... but the soldiers had modern weapons in there hands...... it is sayd that more people were killed in ww2 then in every other human conflict in our history put together....

Supported Charlie Co, that was a great time. 2 yrs previous(with the same unit), one of their tank commanders pulled "Top Gun" on the Ft. Hood Tank Firing Range with a score of 995 out of 1,000. Top Gun of the previous year had only scored in the 600s -- was he pissed.
The yellow and orange reflective pads rather ruins the effect.

...but the American Civil War, there were 600,000 - 620,000 dead (combined) which made it our costliest war in personnel loss.
